I have noticed one thing about Mary Matalin-whenever she gets a tough question-like whether she condemns Coulter for calling the widows “harpies”, she claims not to know much about the person or the issue. She will never condemn one of her own for going too far, which is a shame. Not to say that I saw many Dems condemning Belafonte or Sheehan for crossing the line either, just to be fair……
Maybe Coulter is the female Simon Cowell of the right wing establishment; she says the most outrageous things that few others could get away with, then basks in all the attention and book sales she engenders from the outrage.
They never do, and now it seems some on the left are following suit. Why apologize for Sheehan (she isn’t in the same league as Coulter), or Belafonte (he is in the same league with Coulter) if the right never apologizes for their shock troops? Of course it only goes on to support the devisiveness, and holds the public as politcal hostages untill this stuff is ended.
I can’t stand Coulter, but I’m amused the way people are rushing to prove her point – that people use their status as victims to supress dissenting view points.
Mike I think you missed the point here. Ms. Coulter can – like you or me – agree or disagree with anyone she cares too. What she did was not disagree with the widows but claimed that they enjoyed the deaths of their husbands…a ridiculous, sick and evil claim that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. It is, however, an outrageous statement meant to launch her book into the hands of a shocked public. Until we all – right and left – demand accountability for our “spokespersons” we are going to continue to get this kind of crap. It is a symptom of our national media disease. God help us if we don’t get a handle on this soon because it is destroying our nation….
Well put Eural, it is fratracide. Only some are making alot of money off of it, and thats the key thing money. Since greed is the rule of the day in business, and politics only winning seems to matter to people anymore. Problem is few are “winning”, and many are suffering alongside the republic dying a painful death unless the “win at all cost” types get over their inflated self worths, and realize they are part of us as well.
When stupidity is assailed for what it is, and logic hailed we will become the nation so many seem to think we currently are, but sadly are not.
One big problem is pundits pimping their books on the talk shows. They are there to sell their books, and most times will say BS to get attention. I think all talk shows need a disclaimer – ” the following guest is here to sell a book, disregard any comments as actual intelligent analysis” CSPAN had an author discussing who the elite ( class and culture) are not serving in the military and the implications of this on the military and our nation. The title is “AWOL …” ,why not have someone like this on MSM talk shows instead of Left and Right wing book whores?
“CSPAN had an author discussing who the elite ( class and culture) are not serving in the military and the implications of this on the military and our nation. The title is “AWOL …” ,why not have someone like this on MSM talk shows instead of Left and Right wing book whores?”
Because that author probably isn’t loud, or outlandish enough to shock the crap out of the public Rudi. To be big time the author would have to utter a few outrageous remarks, or have a scremfest talk show cause it’s all about sizzle when it comes to MSM baby. A song explains it all Rudi, “Dirty Laundry” by Don Henley.
What always amazes me, is that conservatives blame liberals for the degradation of our culture, yet their spokesmen have no trouble saying the most degrading things about liberals.
I disagree with the extremes of both parties, and agree that a lot of what you hear on talk radio and other media outlets-extreme blogs for example-in the name of free speech is destroying us. We can try not to react to it or support it in any way-and condemn it as hate speech, but it is making its mark on many Americans as we grow more divided and partisan.
I support Unity ’08, as one means to bring Americans together.
For the most part Republican pundits have backed Ann’s main point while disagreeing with some of the language .
The GOP establishment does not need to condemn Coulter just as the Dems don’t need to rush to distance themselves from Michael Moore and others.
I find it interesting that the ” Moderate voice ” has not pointed out the difference between how the two sides handle hateful discourse . Let me show you the difference !
From the NY Times
Predictably, the comments created a storm of controversy. House Democrats from New York City and Long Island signed a letter demanding an apology from Coulter.
Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have the book banned in the state.
From http://www.theconservativevoice.com
NewsMax reports that New Jersey Democrat Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender are pushing all booksellers throughout the state to refuse to carry Coulter’s book. The two women issued a joint statement, which reads in part: “Ann Coulter’s criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate! No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongeringâ€? and “her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves.”
From newsmax.com
In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to “ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state.”
Note how these unhinged left wing nutts prove Ann’s point better than she could . She will need to add this to the paperback edition .
That is the difference between the two sides . Once can handle debate while the other tries to squash it.
If that’s true tho, why do conservative talk show hosts try to label callers that disagree with them as “having a hidden agenda” using that as an excuse to hang up on them? If you listen to Hannity, Rush or Michael Savage-they are extremely intolerant of dissent most of the time, and usually get really angry when a liberal calls, or even an independent.
There was a time when talk radio was made up mostly of Liberals and Conservatives would make the same charges. The issue here is Coulter . Try to focus on that. As I pointed out, there are left wing wakos calling for her book to be banned. Others are calling for people to sign a note condemning Coulter. If you don’t sign that is supposed to “prove” you are an intolerant hater. The whole thing is Absurd and proves exactly what Ann was saying.
As for then three you mentioned, Savage is simply an unhinged reactionary while Hannity is a loud mouth who repeats the same things without allowing the other side to respond. Rush actually often debates his callers and lets them respond. Both Savage and Rush frequently criticize the president on a number of issues, most notably immigration.
As I have pointed out on a prior post both Tucker Carlson and Bill O’Reilly strongly challenged Ann on some of her comments.
Anyone that would read newsmax, and consider it a worthy source needs help. But it does explain ones defense of Coulter, since newsmax isn’t much different than she is.
The NewsMax article not only misrepresents a call for a boycott as a call for a “ban, it contains a blatant lie. The actual press release Press Release
does *not* say “ban the sale of her book throughout the state, it says “boycott the sale of her book throughout the state. The text as given here has been altered.
For the record, Ann Coulter DID NOT say that the 911 widows “enjoyed their husbands deaths” as has been frequently misquoted and again in this thread.
Ann Coulter said that she had never seen anyone “enjoying their husbands deaths so much”. That puts the emphasis on their political stardom post 911 and is a BIG difference.

Social Conservatism has jumped the shark.

Misquotes and bad information poisons the well.
