i think the republicans have done a fine job at destroying the country…record deficits, and uncontrolled border, an out of control war in iraq and afghanistan, terrible enviromental policies, etc..

gonna take decades to clean up their messes

  2. Pyst says:

They deserve to lose for the next 10 mid term elections, after the mess they’ve made.

I am about to move into a district with a moderat Republican. And I plan on voting for the Democrat. Why? Because the “moderate” Republican voted for Tom DeLay, and will vote for every other right-wing idiot leading the current GOP. Constituent service means very little to me, as do “local issues” in Congressional races. Most Congressmen do just fine on local issues anyway. The only thing that separates them is their position on national issues.

Let them feel the wrath of the ordinary citizens who haven’t benefitted from the tax cuts for the wealthy, haven’t become enriched by no-bid contracts, have had their civil rights whittled away, are paying 3$ a gallon for gas because the oil companies wrote our energy policy, will be worrying this hurricane season about global warming and incompetence at FEMA, have a son, daughter, niece or nephew serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, can’t travel internationally without noticing Anti-American sentiment, can’t live on wages that haven’t risen with the cost of living, no longer want initiatives and judges who cater to the intolerant evangelicals, and who have watched this corrupt Republican-led Congress generally rubber-stamp an incompetent executive’s policies.

Christ, what they “deserve” is to be dispossessed, transported, keelhauled, and dumped on a desert island to rot.

I’ll settle for them losing the majorities in Congress.

Honestly, they deserve to be de-certified as a legitimate political party in my mind. But given reality, some serious bites out of their re-election asses will have to do for now. Mind you, I’m far from convinced the Dems can re-take either the House or the Senate this time around, though Republicans seem intent on it.

The Republicans are reaping what they’ve sowed. In their quest for absolute power they have used the most base issues to appeal to the worst in us, and to divide us, for 3 decades. The Bush Administration is simply the pinnacle of the overwhelming achievement of that goal. But like the mythical bluesman, they sold their souls at a crossroads along the way. And no matter how loudly conservative heroes say so, today’s conservative “heroes” just shout louder to block out the reality.

The problem is that the only alternative in most districts is a Democrat who is probably not as corrupt. And that’s about all that will make him (or her) more qualified than than the Republican incumbant. The Democrats as a party are incredibly disorganized and have no clear message – that’s why they lose national elections.

  8. Kim Ritter says:

Amanda- the Republican party is also in a state of chaos at the moment-over immigration, overspending, the war in Iraq etc. Also, to be fair, the Democrats have an extremely diverse base, which probably makes it difficult for them to come up with a unified message in national elections. The Republicans are largely white, suburban, upper-middle class and wealthy. They also tend to be more diligent church-goers.

I look at the Clinton years and compare it to the Bush years, and my choice is easy. Under Clinton there was eight years of prosperity, balanced budgets (with a huge surplus when he left office), tolerance for all religions, races, creeds, welfare reform, FEMA functioned under James Lee Witt, and we participated in humanitarian intervention in Kosovo in response to genocide. I’ve already written in my other post about America in the Bush years.
