Barry hit #715* today, and yes that is an * next to the number. I checked into his records recently and found that 247 home runs were hit during his admitted steriod years 1998-2003. That was an average of 60+ home runs a year, think about how rediculious that sounds for a second. 60 a year, not even the greatest home run hitters in their primes (normally ages 27-34) hit anywhere close to 60 a year, and Bonds did most of this AFTER age 34.
Simply put, he cheated with steroids to do so, so what do we do about it? An asterisk is but a start if you ask me. The commisioner, if baseball had one with a pair, would state that MLB will have 2 sets of statistical numbers for any player admitting to or caught using steroids. Let Bonds have 715* homeruns shown, but erase 247 from the accepted homerun/RBI/hits total, and so on, without an asterisk beside it as the official MLB accepted totals.
