A lot of us knew that Obama would suffer a much greater learning curve than even GWB. You can't go from state rep, to 1 term Senator, to POTUS without missing MUCH needed experience.

He was smart enough to know it. He brought in Biden to shore up his complete lack of foreign policy experience. He gave Reid and Pelosi the reins to HCR. Biden did his job well. R&P have failed so badly on HCR that it has derailed everything else Obama wanted to do.

Obama has learned…retaken control and public leadership of Dem policy. We will see what the next year brings. I'm cheering for him.

  2. People don't die from lack of jobs, but they die from lack of insurance.

Then why didn't the Dems institute an expanded Cobra for all states when they had the 60. (It probably would have gotten to 75.)?

  4. GreenDreams says:

Cobra is really expensive, and far short of an ideal solution. Cobra, in fact, often costs more than an individual policy, which is also insanely expensive. A struggling family that loses a 'breadwinner' is hardly in a position to pay the hefty Cobra premium, and in that situation, many choose to feed their kids rather than insure them.

And maybe you're not paying attention, but the Dems don't get a single vote from Repubs. There's no 75 votes for anything if it would hand the Dems a victory.

I agree about the old Cobra, which is a state thing. I said an “expanded” Cobra which would include federal subsidies as needed.

mine's fine too. sorry for the snark. You have noticed then that the republicans are actually filibustering just to obstruct. Example, filibuster a nominee they then vote for. It's all about blocking, not policy.

When your team is down, it may be the natural thing to do (unfortunately) and the Dems may get the chance to return the favor some day.

  8. GreenDreams says:

permanent gridlock alright by you, huh duck?

I hope not. I think if we get more of a power balance, we get a better game, ala football. Currently, I think too much power, on either side, exacerbates the problem. That's why I don't want a 1994 again.

I still don't think this would be another 1994. It's a mess with the GOP right now. Speaking of 1994, you know it is bad for the GOP when (believe it or not) there's some talk (not much, but some) I have heard once in a rare while of Gingrich coming back to become a candidate for office (even the Presidency) given the poor other choices.
