Is Mel Gibson beyond a p.r. handler’s help? He’s a great actor whose work seems to improve the older he gets, but someone whose real life is likely to cut down on some of his box office draw. To wit:
Gibson has issues. Note his comment to reporter Sam Rubin (who happens to be Jewish):

Attn. Mel: There are people who “have a dog in this fight” who will refrain from going to to theaters to watch your films or buying your DVDs. It’s likely they will watch it for free on Netflix but mea culpas coupled with the attitude shown in the above clips can negate past apologies. In both of these instances, it would have been wiser to get off the question and move on.
If someone wanted to see stories suggesting Mel Gibson was anti semitic (whether he is or is not) THIS is what you find on Google News and THIS is what you find on Google Web.
All of this put together suggests that Gibson isn’t someone who attends many bar mitzvahs. But perhaps he is misunderstood…If so, stronger p.r. advice, more thoughtful Gibson answers and perhaps a tearful appearance on Oprah might get the desired message out…
In the meantime, Gibson the person continues to take attention away from Gibson the artist and actor.

I see this article and the one just before it and I'm smelling “get on board with Israel”.
Israel, our oil-port on the Mediterranian [oh yeah I guess it is a country too as of the 1940s], is staring down Iran. What that means is the US is staring down Iran. We need to make decisions about oil very quickly. We need to prioritize our military involvments very quickly. We need to pull out of the Middle East very quickly. We need to restructure our energy policies very quickly.
There really isn't much time left at all. The urgency to do this is at red-levels.
The man believes what he believes. It's his business and he has a right to it. I don't agree with him but he has a right to his beliefs.
If people stop asking him and bringing up the subject then they won't hear his answers. The interviewer is an a**hole, just as Gibson said.
There are people whom are anti-Semites and they every right to believe what they believe. The day we start disallowing people’s right to believe what they wish, is the day we become the Nazis. Remember though, believing and practicing is two very different issues.
“There are people whom are anti-Semites and they every right to believe what they believe. “
Yes, and everyone else has the right to believe what they believe about Mel Gibson and his beliefs. Freedom of speech doesn't apply to bigots only.
Then you become the “bigot” also.
We'll have to keep an eye on both of you.
This Mel Gibson post has nothing at all to do with Israel. Separate issue.
As long as an actor doesn't get in the way of a character then I'm not going to worry about it. There are some actors that personal lives, opinions, politics ect bug me so much that I can't forget and just let them be the character. If Mel was that person and walked around publicizing it then it would be a problem but lets face it he went in to hiding and let it fade. Now Tom Cruise, I'm still not sure I can watch him anymore. The couch jumping is still to fresh.
Really, someone is a “bigot” because they voice their disapproval of people who have racist and/or anti-Semitic beliefs? I don't think so. If that's the case, you can just as easily call someone a “bigot” because they're opposed to murderers, embezzlers, thieves, and so on.

I believe (though I could be wrong) that Father_time is using the “bigot” label somewhat tongue-in-cheek, much akin to your last statement. I read it with sarcasm attached, though it may or may not have been there.
As for Mr. Gibson, I disagree with a number of his personal beliefs, but enjoy most of his movies. Even Disney learns that its “invincible” kid stars eventually become human and, thus, flawed.
I think he behavior with the Malibu police more than proves that Gibson is an anti-Semite. You don't scream, “You're a Jew!” in an accusing manner if you don't think there is something terribly wrong with Jewish people.
I personally don't understand antisemitism in America. Most of the stereotypes that bigots mention are more or less viewed as good qualities in many cultures. I see the historical reason why Palestinians feel they way they do…but in the US…I don't get it.
Believing what you believe. Acting on your belief.
Different.
Some of you people are really stupid.. if someone called any of you family names and said” they are no good , evil” and should die for crimes,” you would be all over them getting the off the air. Did you know Henry Ford ,. founder Ford motors planned attacks with Hitler against Jews?? to this day No Jew had a high postition at FORD.. he had the money to support it.. WAKE UP!
Mel Gibson is now a billionaire,, he made his money on a movie that depicted Jews as killers.. if that is not like Nazi Germany then I don’t know what is.!. he is entitled to his beliefs but like the Taliban they do no good at all and anything that speaks ” hatred” aginast people should not be allowed to practice as a religion…..it's very dangerous.. MG should not be out there doing movies any more . I will not pay a bigot money to support his movies. You are not Jewish .. You don’t know how hatred grows… WAKE UP!// when terrorist hit us again, Mel could be funding them..
