I am so glad you picked this story up- I *love* it. Fair dues to the restaurant for coming out against wanton wastefulness. We used to go to a buffet in Pennsylvania Dutch country that had a folksy sign: “Take what you want, but eat what you take”. It is true that sometimes you try something and don’t like it, and it is true that sometimes kids take more than they can it, but it is clear from the story that this restaurant was careful and only lowered the boom when they saw plain old wastefulness. I love a blow for common sense!
Agreed. How can you not know how much of what your own kids will eat? Even if they are truly that ignorant, those parents aren’t doing their kids any favors by letting them load up on something and then take one bite and throw the rest out.
I remember the time my brother and sister decided it would be a great idea to put orange juice on their Cheerios instead of milk. Our mom warned them not to, that they would have to eat it if they did, but that didn’t stop them. However, being forced to eat about half of what was in their bowls had the desired effect. We kids still talk about the life lesson learned that day. It went way beyond the fact that Cheerios taste horrible in orange juice.
