Why is it that drugs with “White faces” (e.g., Meth) seem to be met with treatment plans, while those with “Black faces” (e.g., Crack) get met with draconian punishment?
Media attention? I’ve seen a few documentaries on meth, but none on crack. I’d say meth is worse, though, in terms of long-term effects, but I’m by no means an expert. Those before and after pictures of meth users are quite shocking. Also, meth is something that the powers that be have more of an ability to do something about by eliminating/controlling the source. Crack is a whole lot harder to control the production of.
Meth vs. Crack may not be the best comparison for the reasons Fitzov mentions. However, that doesn’t mean that white face/black face drugs get treated differently. Crack vs. powdered cocaine is an eccelent recent history example of this.
