    Q. What would the good Doctor say if labor unions had to “pay to play”?

    A. Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaagggggghhh!!

Afterall, 9 of the top 10 donor organizations in 2004 favored democrats by greater than an 80% – 20% margin. Where would the democrats get their funds without the labor unions?

I’m an agnostic, but I think it is inherit in the duties of religious leaders to point out immoral and unethical behavior. Whether that behavior is by a society or individual politician shouldn’t really matter.

Martin Luther King, Jr comes to mind.

I agreed, Bob. I would draw the line at endorsing a specific candidate or party by name, however. Not sure if it’s legal or not, but I don’t think political endorsements need to be coming from the pulpit.

    MLK is a good example.

As I read the IRS regs, unions do have to pay to play. The issue isn’t whether or not churches can engage in politics, rather it’s whether or not they can remain tax-exempt while doing so.
