Another Tight Massachusetts Poll

Another poll, this one from Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows the Senate race with a one point lead for the Republican Scott Brown over Democrat Martha Coakley.

As I indicated with the Rasmussen poll I expect Coakley to win and to do so by a fairly comfortable margin (probably approaching double digits). The state is simply too hard core Democratic these days and I think these polls either underestimate Democratic turnout or will at minimum encourage a major GOTV effort by the Coakley campaign.

It is worth pointing out that PPP is a Democratic firm and it will be an interesting race to watch.

Rumor is that the two Boston papers have polls coming out Sunday, one showing it a one point race, the other putting Coakley ahead by 15. I’d say the truth is somewhere in between.

Vote for Scott Brown! He will stand up for this state just as the Kennedy family did for over half a century!

Boston Globe poll released 1/10 taken 1/2-1/6 has Coakley up by 15. With a lead like that the Democrats can kick back and watch TV instead of troubling themselves voting :-)

I'm not surprised. Rasmussen builds its polls on “likely voters,” a demographic that traditionally favors conservative voters (and a presumption that is most often correct). And given that low morale among Democrats at the moment, it would be hard for me to dispute the poll's findings. Unless the Democrats give their adherents a cause to rally behind, I expect Republicans to run stronger-than-expected campaigns in traditionally liberal districts.

But what will it mean if Brown wins in Mass.? How can the Dems spin that one?
