Some religious folk want to say whatever they please regarding people’s sexuality. I agree they can say their piece, but is that speech without consequences?
Next they’ll go after left-handed people. Those that use “The Devil’s Hand” will be treated like sinners. Crazy? Yes. Out of the realm of possibility? Hell no! After all, people “choose” to be left-handed the same way as gay people do. At least in these psuedo-religious bigot’s minds. They should keep their wacky beliefs to themselves. We should drive the so called “religious right” back into the closet.
The courts have allowed limitations placed upon speech in certain instances, but I think Ms. Malhotra has a strong case here. GA Tech isn’t a private enterprise, it’s a state school, a member of the University System of GA. A university is one place where a wide range of opinion is to be expected and even encouraged.
What we have here is an agent of the state of GA telling a student what they can or can’t say in a public place. Ms. Malhotra’s speech is intolerant and offensive, but that has never been a basis here in the US for silencing someone. Here in the US, we counter offensive speech with more speech. Let her fellow students tell her what a jerk she is being. It isn’t the place of the government to silence her.

I thought they already did a pretty good job of discriminating.
