North Korea Holding American Citizen

The ever zany DPRK has announced that they are holding an American citizen prisoner.

According to the reports it was a Korean-American missionary who told relatives he wanted to sneak into the oppressive and isolationist state. The man may be It provided no details, but the description appears to match the case of 28-year-old Robert Park of Arizona who wanted to bring a message of Christianity to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

I must admit to having mixed views here. On the one hand it is entirely improper for North Korea to imprison someone just for entering the country but at the same time when you enter a place that has a reputation for killing people who do just that…

We will keep you updated.

    Leave the idiot there.

Did he want to meet Kim Jong II, or Clinton?

  3. JSpencer says:

Missionaries used to go into other uncivilized regions too, the amazon, the congo, the early American west, etc. often bringing their families with them. One has to marvel at that level of presumption and naivete, even while giving at a little grudging admiration for the courage of their convictions… however flawed.

    Clinton?

    Clinton???

I am no supporter in any way for NK, but that statement makes no sense. Just about EVERY country (ours included) jail and deport people for entering illegally.

And maybe we don't agree with the anti-Christian laws NK has either, but they are well known.

If you are going to follow your conscience and 'spread the word' in such places, you have to be prepared to pay the consequences.

  5. JeffersonDavis says:

Funny. You wouldn't say that if he were an American there for another purpose.

You, and your fellow atheist pal Kim Jong Il, have a lot more in common than you know.

  6. JSpencer says:

Actually Kim Jong Il isn't a atheist. He is one of some 55 million practitioners of Juche, which is the practice of venerating the national leader. Your suggestion that FT has much in common with Kim Jong Il is of course absurd.

  7. JeffersonDavis says:

What is in that statement that doesn't say Kim Jong Il is an atheist?
Juchism is, indeed, advanced humanism based within communism. It states that men are the masters of all destiny with no god. That IS atheism, brother.

  8. JSpencer says:

Shades of gray brother, shades of gray. The fact is, humans do in fact create their own destiny, whether by design or negligence.

Right, but I doubt a “missionary” had that in mind… not a “real” one. ;-)

At 28 (ugh, that sounded old at one time in my life), there's a real good chance that it was just a stunt — and not real bright one at that.

You should pick a book which is not the Bible for a change.
North Korea is the most religious country in the world. Kim Ill Sung is just the Party Leader, his Father, who is dead since almost, two decades is the President of North Korea. They worship these SOB's everyday in every way. These guys have made Gods out of themselves and demand worship.
Otherwise one will be punished. Sounds familiar does'nt it?
Atheism means one does not believe in a God. Thats it , no more no less. Carl Rove, the Idiot who helped Bush getting elected is an Atheist. So is Warren Buffett, the man who donated more money to good causes than anyone in history. What does that say about Atheism? Nothing!!!

  14. Father_Time says:

There is nothing FUNNY about intentionally putting your country at a disadvantage for your own selfish and stupid reasons.

You and your fellow self-righteous holly-rollers have more in common with greed than you admit, but clearly know.

Grow up squid. Repent you're hatred.

    lol

One, worshipping another person like a god is neither Humanism nor atheism. Two, communism is not explicitly atheistic. Communist regimes have historically oppressed organized religions for their perceived threat to the power of the state, not for the sake of advancing atheism. Early in the Soviet Union's history, the Russian Orthodox Church actually did incite rebellion, for they wanted to regain the powerful status they used to hold under the Czars.

PLease familiarize yourself with the terminology you choose to use and the facts regarding current and past events before commenting, for both your sake and those of us reading along.

Frankly, I'm growing tired of these stories. First it was the fools who absently crossed the Iranian border while hiking. Why would you be hiking there? I'm sorry, that's idiotic and if you take such a risk, be prepared to accept the consequences. Now it's this clown preaching his beliefs in a country where doing so is forbidden. Well guess what, cupcake? You rolled the dice and lost. Game over.

It is not, nor should not be the responsibility of the US to have to deal with the foolishness of some of its citizens like this. I also find it disturbing that the very same people who would argue spending not just the time and money but lives of our troops by invading these countries on a rescue/retaliation mission yet also argue they're being unfairly pick-pocketed if a few sheckles of their tax money will go towards education, welfare or god forbid, universal healthcare!

  18. JeffersonDavis says:

“One, worshipping another person like a god is neither Humanism nor atheism.”

They don't WORSHIP Kim Jung il – they venerate him. They do not consider him diety – just the ultimate power in Korea. That is what Juchism is all about.

    Atheism:
•the doctrine or belief that there is no God
•a lack of belief in the existence of God or gods

Yep. Still applies to Korea and Father_Time.

  19. JeffersonDavis says:

Humans do, indeed, create their own destiny. I agree. Doesn't make me like Kim Jung il either.
It also doesn't make me a believer in Juchism.

  20. JeffersonDavis says:

“You and your fellow self-righteous holly-rollers have more in common with greed than you admit”

Not self-righteous, brother. I'm quite humble, actually. I've never said I was “better than you”. Never will. I WILL say, however, that our nation is, in fact, in decline due to humanism and liberals like you and your pals. That's not a statement of hatred. I could sit down and have a cup of coffee with you, and even some conversation, and it wouldn't bother me in the least. I won't get angry when you crap over my beliefs, but I won't sit there meakly either.

And much like disagreement with Presidents and politicians, disagreement is NOT hate.
That is the same logic political jackasses use to equate standing against Obamanomics with racism.

  21. JeffersonDavis says:

“You should pick a book which is not the Bible for a change.”

And why would a Christian “pick” a different book than the Bible, brother?
As I've stated many times in the past, if a nation's citizenry follows the precepts of the Bible, it will have a stable and good society. When they chuck it in favor of humanist principles, the converse will be true. Many other philosophies (Buddhism, Confucism, etc) can acheive the same goal, since most of their precepts are the same as Christianity.

And people in power (Rove, Buffet, etc) have always had atheists in their ranks. What's your point? And for the record, Rove is an agnostic, but Buffet is an atheist. Slight difference, but it still doesn't matter.

  22. JeffersonDavis says:

“Now it's this clown preaching his beliefs in a country where doing so is forbidden. Well guess what, cupcake? You rolled the dice and lost.”

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one, PC. Roll the dice, and receive the consequences. But our State Department, although a vast waste of resources, must deal with it anyway. Hillary Clinton has to be rolling her eyes (followed by a sigh) every time one of these comes across her desk.
