I recently wrote about how Goldman Sachs said they are doing “God’s Work” to which Yves Smith replies:
Great! Then they should be willing to do it for free. I don’t recall the Bible discussing Jesus getting eight or nine figure compensation (or what passed for it back then), and the Gautama Buddha, born a prince, gave up all the trappings of wealth.
Touché.
I believe this is the part where some devout ideologue attempts to explain why the philosophy of Jesus and unfettered capitalism aren't mutually exclusive. Forget all that camel and eye of needle nonsense.
How about the teachings of Jesus and unfettered political control?
Sure, do you have a quote from Jesus on that? Have at it…
It's really more of a holistic understanding of the gospel story, JSpencer (cherry picking individual quotes is never very helpful anyway.) Neither the political powers nor the 'greedy capitalists' were exactly protagonists in the gospels, and Jesus surrendered himself to the political authorities rather than challenging them or advocating that his followers should seek out that kind of power.
I have to say, that's a novel deflection from the point. Have you convinced yourself?
seems to me that mister blankfein was right on the money, if everyone will pardon the pun. after all, we're talking about one huge nefarious farce played out on mankind with the express goal of controlling the masses and aggregating wealth. the other is goldman sachs.
Not at all novel, actually. As far as convincing myself….I'm firmly convinced that Jesus didn't come to bring a political message, yes. Neither conservatives nor liberals should claim that their political ideology is based on “WWJD”.
Then again, there are several instances in the bible that encourage or demand honesty and fairness in business.
