White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel on compromise in the health care legislative process:
I’m sure there are a lot of people sitting in the shade at the Aspen Institute — my brother being one of them — who will tell you what the ideal plan is. Great, fascinating. You have the art of the possible measured against the ideal.
H/t Eric Zimmermann.

Actually, the story at that link points at reality, which even Democrats are now being forced to face:
“As health care legislation moves toward a crucial airing in the Senate, the White House is facing a growing revolt from some Democrats and analysts who say the bills Congress is considering do not fulfill President Obama’s promise to slow the runaway rise in health care spending.”

Damned if we don't agree again. I promise not to make a habit of it. And, you did it without putting anyone down with gratuitous carping about libs, demmies or anything. Way to go.
As for Rahm's comment, sometimes the “art of the possible” results in policy that isn't worth doing.
Pete…lol…I know you don't want this piece to be about race too so maybe change the “White Chief Rahm Emanuel” to “WhiteHOUSE Chief of Staff”…lol.. You're going to piss off the native americans.
Could have been worse. It could have been “White President Obama”!

I've pushed back hard, as it has been earned, against the more wretched excess I've seen here as well as elsewhere this year, especially these days with health care “reform” and attempted federal takeover; it would be a mistake to leap to mischaracterization as a result of this (or to mistake the cause and effect relationship, no matter how much choice is also involved).
Sil — Ouch! Thanks for the catch. Edit made.
