Suicide Bombers Are Better Than Gay Marriage

From a 3 page statement distributed by the local Catholic Archdiocese on the island of Guam in opposition to Bill 185, which would would allow same-sex couples to enter into legal domestic partnerships:

The culture of homosexuality is a culture of self-absorption because it does not value self-sacrifice. It is a glaring example of what John Paul II has called the culture of death. Islamic fundamentalists clearly understand the damage that homosexual behavior inflicts on a culture. That is why they repress such behavior by death. Their culture is anything but one of self-absorption. It may be brutal at times, but any culture that is able to produce wave after wave of suicide bombers (women as well as men) is a culture that at least knows how to value self-sacrifice. AnthonyOpuron.pngTerrorism as a way to oppose the degeneration of the culture is to be rejected completely since such violence is itself another form of degeneracy. One, however, does not have to agree with the gruesome ways that the fundamentalists use to curb the forces that undermine their culture to admit that the Islamic fundamentalist charge that Western Civilization in general and the U.S.A, in particular is the “Great Satan” is not without an element of truth. It makes no sense for the U. S. Government to send our boys to fight Al Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan, while at the same time it embraces the social policies embodied in Bill 185 (as President Obama has done). Such policies only furnish further arguments for the fundamentalists in their efforts to gain more recruits for the war against the “Great Satan.”

The document concludes that, “By adopting Bill 185 you will have contributed to the end of Western Civilization.” Guam has a population that is 85% Catholic. Still, there is pushback:

Legislative Vice Speaker Benjamin Cruz, an openly gay man, condemned the Church’s statement as "hypocrisy," given recent scandals about the Church’s role in covering up sexual abuse by priests.  Cruz alleged that he himself had been molested by a priest when he was thirteen years old, although he conceded that he didn’t have enough evidence of the abuse for a court case.

Gerhard Schwab, a professor at the University of Guam has begun organizing other Catholics to speak up against the stance expressed in the letter by circulating a petition. "I’m Catholic, but I want to think," Schwab told the Pacific Daily News. "I think if my leadership is wrong, I have a responsibility to share my opinions. … I personally would have wished the archbishop comes out in favor of giving recognition to same-gender partnerships." And specifically, Schwab wants the archbishop to apologize for the letter. "It’s outrageous to say that we should learn from the Taliban on how to oppress minorities," he said. "And that’s basically what [Archbishop Anthony Apuron] said.

Criticisms like those of Cruz and Schwab are being felt by the hierarchy. On Thursday, Apuron issued a letter emphasizing that the Catholic Church was committed to combating sexual abuse with the same fervor that it fights homosexuality. "In response to my pastoral letter that was released last Sunday, I want to make it clear that persons with same-sex attraction were not the target of my pastoral letter, nor was it meant to condemn anyone in any way.  If I have hurt anyone, please forgive me," the archbishop wrote.

  • This kind of statement is one where you have to read it three or four times to make sure your brain is working.

Look for him to get promoted to the Vatican (so they can keep an eye on him)

"Cruz alleged that he himself had been molested by a priest when he was thirteen years old"--

Thus he became happily gay, but cannot resist attacking those that so lovingly converted him. Well that's gratitude for ya.

If this isn't a case of the pot calling the kettle black, there is none.
  • roro80
That is so unbelievably messed up dude.
  • pacatrue
That's a really disgusting thought. Do you also think that every woman who is sexually assaulted was either 1) converted to heterosexuality by her rapist or 2) should give up all sexual behavior for the rest of her life?

Dang, that was a sick comment.
  • Father_Time
    Truth is sometimes hard.

So you must think that he was "born gay" and was molested by a gay priest because of his youthful sexual prowess overwhelming the gay priest’s gaydar?
  • Father_Time
    1) No
    2) No

Dang that was an easy test, but completely irrelevant to the point of my comment. A woman is a woman. A man is not.

    Fun fact time:
The majority of molesters are heterosexual and NOT homosexual.
Orientation doesn't have much of anything to do with it as much as sex drive.

I don't agree with the Archdiocese' statement and find it by and large homophobic , but the byline of this blog is demagoguery.

The title of the blog " Suicide Bombers Are Better Than Gay Marriage" and its following argument very conveniently ignore the straight forward statement from the Archdiocese that "Terrorism as a way to oppose the degeneration of the culture is to be rejected completely since such violence is itself another form of degeneracy."
  • Father_Time
No, there are homosexual child molesters and heterosexual child molesters.

There is always a choice. Always.
  • Father_Time
Let me see, the by-line is "by" Mr. Joe Windish.

IMO, Mr. Windish makes a very fair comparison pointing out Catholic hypocrisy regarding homosexuals. Though people throw tomatoes at me all the time here regarding my opinions on homosexuality, I readily admit that it is nonetheless a reality, chosen but real, (IMO).

If I had to make a choice of being around a couple of open and affectionate homosexuals, however chalk board scrape annoying that may be for me, I would much rather do so than be around any creepy catholic priest of which, (IMO), all are full of who knows what kind psychotic or sociopathic demon resides inside their twisted brainwashed mind.

In other words I find Mr. Windish as having one heck-of-an out-of-bounds flaw, but, catholic priests as creepy weirdo’s of the earth never to turn one’s back upon.

You must've failed psychology. Homosexuality isn't a choice.
  • Father_Time
Yes it is, and, there is no proof otherwise.
  • roro80
There's no "proof" either way; you must have failed at science, too. There's lots more *evidence* that it is inherent (genetic and/or womb conditions) than choice.
  • Chocoholic
    wow you definitely failed psychology. h t t p : / / w w w . a p a . o r g / t o p i c s / s o r i e n t a t i o n . p d f
since boards don't particularly like links I've spaced it out. This is a pdf document from the American Psychological Association website. Go learn something. Saying that there is "no proof" when there's pretty much plain as day proof when you open your eyes either shows you are willingly ignorant or pretty dam stupid.
  • Father_Time
People can chose whom they have sex with. Your point is moot and discarded out of hand.
  • Father_Time
The APA is mostly gay. Find another psychology association please. This one is biased.
  • Chocoholic
proof? and the APA is what most psychologists refer to so I don't see how it's biased.
  • Chocoholic
sex and sexuality are two completely different things. So i believe it is YOUR point that is moot.
  • Father_Time
Call them and ask them how many are gay and why other associations do not agree with their gay “opinions”.
  • Father_Time
"sex and sexuality are two completely different things"--

    lol
  • Chocoholic
sexuality is the attraction, sex is the act. Learn the difference. You can have sex with someone without being attracted to them
  • Chocoholic
what "other associations"? You mean like NARTH that's run by the Catholic agenda?
