The majority of folks commenting on the Bill Bennett flap either are arguing that it was a dumb remark, but not particularly morally wrong or are claiming that there should be no controversy at all, because Bennett’s statement was perfectly accurate.

However, I think there are legitimate critiques of Bennett’s remarks that are not being discussed in the current blogosphere debate.

To be clear, I do not think these remarks prove Bennett to be a racist. But I do think there are serious moral problems with them that Bennett should have foreseen, and thus we can label the remarks racially insensitive, at the very least.
