Sotomayor Vote Tracking And Pool (Bumped/Updated)

Now that members are beginning to announce their votes we can start tracking the total votes. The current count of yes and no votes are as follows, the remainder being undecided. Obviously we can assume most or all Democrats will vote yes but until they announce I won’t list them.

We’ve also got a pool going in the replies. Feel free to chime in.

YES: 22 votes (16D, 6R)

NO:  24 votes (all R)

Democrats are currently 16-0 on the nomination (trending for 60-0)

Republicans are currently 6-24 on the nomination (trending for 8-32)

Assuming these margins more or less stand up then we’d have a 68-32 vote in support.

Just for reference on the two Bush nominees the votes were as follows:

Alito: Republicans were 54-1 in favor, Democrats were 4-41 against.

Roberts: Republicans were 55-0 in favor, Democrats were split 22-22.

So it looks like the GOP will come about in between those two standards.

By contrast, on the two Clinton nominees, the GOP voted heavily in favor (40-3 and 34-9)

Sad the way things have shifted.

Here is a list by state of members, listed as Yes, No or blank for those who have not announced.

Time to start the Sotomayor Pool…

My call is: 73 – yea to 25 – nay

  2. AustinRoth says:

    I say more like 82 – 16.

  3. jchem says:

Lindsey Graham has indicated he will vote for her

I'm not sure how lopsided this will be, but I'll predict she gets more than 75 votes.

Did Oregon succeed from the country? Or don't we matter?!?

  5. Patrick E says:

Just testing to see if you are watching <G>

    Seriously, fixed the boo boo.

  6. jchem says:

Patrick, the folks down here in the Upstate of SC are throwing quite a bit of venom at Lindsey Graham for his lone Repub vote. The guy on the morning radio show is insistent that if he wouldn't have voted for her, she never would have made it to the full senate. He cites some opinion that said something about having at least one vote from the minority. I just heard this on my way to work so I didn't get any of the specifics, but do you know anything of this?

  7. Patrick E says:

I have heard that before but I do not think it is true.

The Alito nomination was passed on a pure party line vote, no Democrats supported him.
