We're not all like that in the South. I resent the caricature and it's implications. I realize what the Republicans are doing to Sotomayor, and I hate it. But, they all do this-both parties. You never see a cartoon about the North. We are not all slow talking, gun toting, Dixiecrats.
I agree, of coarse, that both sides do it, but I don't think the fun made is always at southern expense. Besides some of the south's representatives embody what the cartoon implies.
It has been a common theme here to display the Repubs as the racists, but I'm a bit surprised that no one has yet to do a post about Barbara Boxer's recent display.
“But I do wonder where all these protests were when the same was done to Roberts and Alito”
… and worse to Thomas, and worst of all, and the “model” for future Court appointments, Bork?
The answer is, they were cheerleading the scummy attacks while also joining them.
“We're not all like that in the South. I resent the caricature and it's implications.”
I've lived in and traveled through the South, and know this firsthand, but also, consider the hatred source.
It is politically correct, and popularly fashionable among the politically correct, to engage in bigotry and hatred against the South (an entire _region_) in addition to deliberately selected people as objects of such bigotry, prejudice, and hatred, ironically (as well as hypocritically) in the PC-Orwellian interest of identifying (neurotically if not psychotically) and denouncing “bigotry, prejudice, and hatred”[!}.
That's Orwellian lib PC in well-known standard operating procedure.
(All that's missing are additional measures such as forcing “evil Southerners” to wear a specially-colored or shaped badge on their clothing, or have a tattoed or branded S on their foreheads or wrists, etc., if not face “harsher measures” or “special treatment” by these morally and even genetically superior liberals.
I do realize that many southern representatives do embody that attitue. What I was objecting to was the stereotype. I don't like sterotypes on any kind.
Cute cartoon.
But I do wonder where all these protests were when the same was done to Roberts and Alito…..

Dear newtothis,
I agree, of coarse, that both sides do it, but I don't think the fun made is always at southern expense. Besides some of the south's representatives embody what the cartoon implies.
George Wallace is turning in his grave.
Good, lets roll.

“The South must be smashed” sounds about right in English as well as in the original hypothetical German.
