With Obama, a ‘New Beginning’: Al Madina, Saudi Arabia

To hear subjects of a Saudi monarchy that bears precious little resemblance to a Jeffersonian democracy wax lyrical about America’s Founding Fathers is an odd juxtaposition – but nevertheless encouraging.

Continuing with our Arabic coverage of Barack Obama’s speech to the Islamic world, this editorial from Saudi Arabia’s Al Madina likens the president’s address as and his approach in general as:

“… tantamount to a spiritual return to American values and the great achievements of the Founding Fathers, who laid the basis for those values and endowed future generations with the capacity to implement and strengthen them.”

And clearly, President Obama quoting of the Koran and compliments to Islam’s history had the desired effect. Al Madina characterizes President Obama’s initiative this way:

“He has advocated for a world in which Islam is not considered an enemy and plays a pivotal role – not only because it represents a third of the world’s population – but because the message of Islam is eternally a universally humane and civilized one, which urges peace and tolerance, rejects violence and extremism, and considers that whoever takes an innocent life, it is as if he took the lives of all humanity.”

Saudi Arabia – Al Madina – Original Article (Arabic)

The speech given to the Muslim world from the University of Cairo yesterday by the American president, Barack Hussein Obama, reflected a new and serious U.S. approach toward establishing a world governed under a new international legitimacy to seek peace, justice and prosperity for all mankind and a world free of weapons of mass destruction, a reliance on and compliance with international law and its decisions, without exception.

What a load of BS. And this is coming from that bastion of liberal democracy, Saudi Arabia – where there is not only NO democracy, meaning elections, but no freedom of speech, no freedom of religion, women are third-class citizens, people get their heads chopped off routinely, gays are persecuted & imprisoned, torture (for real, not water-boarding) is a normal procedure, there is no real justice system, foreign workers are held as virtual slaves, anti-Semitism & anti-Christian propaganda is taught as fact in schools, this is the source of jihadi propaganda world-wide (including in the US), the source of world-wide terrorist financing, the home office of intolerance, hatred, & bigotry.
