I was pointed to this story from Minnesota Majority by Hot Air and Yid with Lid. Normally one only finds stories of miraculous resurrection either in Easter services or the South Side of Chicago, but apparently the phenomenon has spread to the frozen wastelands of Minnesota.
Today, Minnesota Majority announced the discovery of individuals who were deceased prior to November 4, 2008, yet have voter history records on the secretary of state’s files that indicate they voted in the 2008 General Election.
Minnesota Majority employed a data enhancement service to flag potentially deceased individuals on Minnesota’s voter registration file. Over 2,800 individuals who voted in the 2008 general election were flagged as being “deceased” prior to the election.
Everyone does a *fairly* good job of avoiding blatant finger pointing toward either party here, but the larger lesson should be clear for all of us. The SecState over there has been asleep at the switch and I’m sure this isn’t the only state where it’s going on. It doesn’t even need to be intentional malfeasance, but neglect can open the door for fraud by bad actors. That state’s Senate race (still in progress) showed exactly how close an election can be, even state-wide, and fraud on this level can make a real difference.
We already have the Help America Vote Act in place. Now it might be time to start working on a similar bill to ensure ethics and accountability in voter tracking across the country.
