Bloomberg business headline:
Housing starts in the U.S. unexpectedly snapped the longest streak of declines in 18 years in February, adding to signs that the pace of the economy’s decline may be easing.
Hallelujah! And I am not even very religious
Business Breaking News: For the fifth day in six consecutive business days, the markets close higher.
Hallelujah!
And look at these other market headlines today:
DOW, S&P 500 on pace for best monthly performance since April 2008
NASDAQ on pace for best monthly performance since May 2008
S&P 500 up by 16 percent since March 5; Russell 2000 up 17 percent since March 5
Of course, when you are down 50 or 60 percent from the highs, it is relatively easy for market indicators to rise a few percentage points. But still, Hallelujah!
But, what heart-breaking news this must be for Mr. Limbaugh and his disciples who have been hoping that the economic stimuli will fail.
What devastating news this must be for Mr. Limbaugh who has virtually staked his reputation on our economy blowing “to smithereens.”
How fervently Mr. Limbaugh must be praying every morning that there will be no improvement in our economy; that the economy will “blow up in [our] faces.”
How disappointed and frustrated he must feel these last few days.
Now, I am a realist. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
There are still lots of opportunities for Mr. Limbaugh’s hopes and wishes to come true. There could still be many happy days ahead for him. This could be just a “dead cat’s bounce,” a short-lived “technical correction,” a bear market rally…
Who knows, tomorrow, or the days thereafter, things could turn around and go Limbaugh’s way once again. Our economy could still totally tank.
But, at least for now, let’s celebrate a pause in our economic downturn.
Let’s savor the moment.
Let’s hope that Mr. Limbaugh, after all, will not chalk up another .2 percent in his “correctness record.”
Let’s hope that it will remain at 99.8 percent—that’s good enough for any human being, on loan from God, or not.
The uptick is pleasing, but until the GMs of the nation and the Citibanks of the nation are resolved, I'm not predicting anything long term out of this.
I am not either, pacatrue…I am just hoping

Wait. I'm confused.
I thought the economy was a Crisis! That if we didnt spend another 3 trillion dollars we were all going into a depression and going to be eating dust for supper?
SKC:
Where do I say that the economy is not a crisis?
“Who knows, tomorrow, or the days thereafter, things could turn around and go Limbaugh’s way once again. Our economy could still totally tank.”

You don't have a link to your email on the front page, so I thought I would use this slightly older thread to share some good news with you (if you don't see it in another thread where I also mentioned it, for other reasons).
Yesterday my daughter had her swearing in ceremony for the Navy (she is going in as an AEFC, and reports to boot camp April 13), and my son is seriously considering applying to the Air Force OTC program when he graduates from Texas A&M in May.
I am very proud of them, to say the least!
AR:
Thank you so much for sharing the news with me, and, yes, you are rightly proud of both of your “kids” for planning to serve their country.
Is your son in the Corps right now? Is OTC (or OTS) still at Lackland AFB?
I wish them both success and congratulations to a proud Dad.
Dorian
No, he is not a cadet. He is coming late to this potential decision, and it is still in the investigative stage. OTS is at Maxwell A.F.B. Alabama now. He is visiting with a Colonel at Lackland this weekend who is in the specific area he is interested in working, to gather more information and such.
And you are correct to put 'kids' in parenthesis – they are my adult children now!
It's interesting. My “children” are 30+ and 40+, and they are still my “kids”
I spent some time at Maxwell AFB attending SOS (Squadron Officer School). Great base, I believe the Air Force's Comand and Staff College (perhaps also the Air War College) and several other military academic institutions are there.
I hope your son gets to go there
