Newman To Replace Gregg ?

According to Politico.com the newest US Senator from New Hampshire will be Bonnie Newman, a longtime moderate Republican who endorsed Democrat John Lynch in 2004. The appointment is set to be announced around 4:30pm this afternoon in New Hampshire.

If true, this is an interesting choice since Newman is only 63 and thus could be a candidate for re-election in 2010. Many had assumed that if Lynch tapped a Republican that it would be an older statesman like former Senator Rudman who would not run in 2010.

UPDATE: Reports now indicate that Newman has agreed not to run in 2010, likely turning this seat Democratic

And once more Democrats show up at a gun fight with a swiss army knife...

Yesterday I read somewhere (sorry I can't immediately link to the article- NY times?) that if Newman were to get the seat she wasn't interested in running for it in 2010....

As far as the Dems showing up to a gun fight with a knife... I think that assumes you're stil thinking along Bush's "Us v. them" mentality. I think this appointment, along with a Republican being given the seat by a Democratic governor shows that Obama is willing to set aside the partisan bickering, even if, ironically enough, Gregg is not willing to do so... he said he would only take the position if it did not upset the balance of power in the Senate.... Gregg still believes in placing Republicans first. Someone (Obama in this case) has to be the adult, willing to take set aside partisan bickering and extend an olive branch if there is to be change in the partisan political tone and workings.

Yes, of course there was no politics on Obama's part, StoB.........(from the millions of people that actually have some business background, he could only find a small city lawyer/career politician to fill the role.) I find your conclusion factually compelling.

It's Bush being selected by the Supreme Court, it's Grey Davis being run out of Office, it's Delay redistricting Texas. If republicans are given an inch they will take a yard.

There won't be, the only things republicans understand is power, there is no point reasoning with them.

I hope Don Q's last statement turns out to be wrong, although there isn't much recent historical precedent to support that hope. If the republicans fail to respond in kind to any reaching out from the Obama administration, then they will (once again) be letting down the American people.
