Swarthy stranger dupes local teen into trading '83 Monte Carlo for magic "Obama" sign. Mother incensed, beats son about the ears.

Or, if it's the house I think it is:

What's with our new anonymous lurker that 's been attacking threads and down-rating all left leaning comments (even the non-political ones) in a thread? It seems both cowardly and childish...
  • futzinfarb
Roy Zimmerman wrote a song that could easily serve as the caption of this photo. It is called "America".

Believe me it's worth a listen. The man is a genius.
  • AustinRoth
SteveK - yes, I have noticed something going on for the past week or so, too.

I didn't know about the down-rating, but they are up-rating those of us on the right as well. I went from -14 to +4 in the past week. While nice, it is obvious someone is gaming the system.
  • StockBoySF
Yes, SteveK and AustinRoth: I've noticed the lurker, too. I lost ten points over two days. And one of the comments dinged was just to fill someone in on something. I don't think the person is reading the individual comments before dinging, but rather they will subtract a point from the people they don't like and add a point to the people they do like. The comments on one post were rated either "0", meaning they dinged) or "2", meaning a point was given. I've tried to determine who it could be but it's impossible because it could be someone who has never posted. It's definitely someone new. I don't mind getting dinged but the person who does so across the board and with no explanation is just a coward.
  • SteveK
    Austin / StockboySF,

I'm glad it wasn't just my imagination. When my innocuous but positive comment on a Gordon Lightfoot Video was downrated I figured that something was going on. Somebody had gone back through my posts and in a half hour I went from +16 to -19... Too funny.

Maybe the newbie doing this will see these comments and join in on conversations instead of poking at people from the bushes.

UPDATE: FWIW - I tried to uprate both your comments but, as you replied using the 'reply' button, couldn't.
  • AustinRoth
Steve - I didn't know that comments made with a 'reply' cannot be rated. I wonder, can they not be rated by the person the reply was directed at, or not be rated by anyone?

In the end, the ratings are a little silly. They have always favored left-leaning posts over right-leaning posts here, but it was not a severe bias, and I try not to get too worked up about them, as they really mean nothing. They have served me in helping me know when I am getting too strident, because I do not often get down-rated for my views, but more often for my presentation of them!

    :-)

But I don't like the thought of malicious mischievousness against anyone. Well, maybe one or two people here.

    :-)

Steve, how funny to come across this post. Seems there might be another suspect to add to your list. haha :)
