SNL, Tina Fey, Sarah Palin And Vice Presidential Debate Expectations »
Liberals love to point out that pundit Bill Kristol is nearly always wrong. They’d have to hand it to him on the Palin part of this one though. From the Sunday, June 29, 2008 edition of Fox News Sunday:
BILL KRISTOL: Republicans are much more open to strong women, and that’s why McCain’s going to put Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, on the ticket as vice president… She’s fantastic. You know, she was the point guard on the Alaska state championship high school basketball team in 1982. She can take Obama one on one on the court. It would be fantastic.
You might think that he’d be backing away a bit after Palin’s performance last week in New York. You’d be wrong. This is what Kristol said on FNS this morning:
Free Sarah Palin… Look, McCain picked her because she was a good governor, a good politician, a good communicator. Let her be a politician. Let her communicate. Put her on TV. Put her radio. Let her relax. Let her go into the debate and try to win the debate. They’ve surrounded her with former Bush White House aides, who if I might say in a way typical of the Bush White House got into a total defensive crouch… ooh, let’s not make mistakes… be very careful… I think she’s strong enough to overcome the very bad advice and very bad staff work that has surrounded her recently.

Bill Kristol: “Free Sarah Palin… Look, McCain picked her because she was a good governor, a good politician, a good communicator. Let her be a politician. Let her communicate. Put her on TV. Put her radio. Let her relax. Let her go into the debate and try to win the debate.”
My God, I agree with Bill Kristol! I think McCain should free her and put her on TV, let her go to the debate. That's what I've been saying all along!
Bill Kristol: “hey’ve surrounded her with former Bush White House aides, who if I might say in a way typical of the Bush White House got into a total defensive crouch… ooh, let’s not make mistakes… be very careful… I think she’s strong enough to overcome the very bad advice and very bad staff work that has surrounded her recently.”
So wait a minute….. Bill Kristol thinks Bush's former aides do not dispense good advice and do not do good work. Yet Bush's aides and advisors are working on the McCain campaign and are his advisors…. so does this mean that Bill Kristol thinks that McCain has bad advisors and is receiving bad advice?
I think McCain believes that his advisors are sub-par because just last week McCain said he would have people like Warren Buffet and some other Obama supporters advising him. Sooooooo….. McCain is stuck with sub par advisors, but once he becomes president he can dump them and get the advisors he really wants…
Yeah, that explains why McCain has been flip flopping around on various issues the last couple of weeks…. He doesn't like his advisors and can't trust them. That's real comforting.

Sarah Palin in accomplished in fields of endeavor that most folks only dream about. It is impressive to see her winning accomplishments in life, business, sports, politics and feminism. She is the accomplished multidisciplined woman that feminism intended to create. She can run with the boys and she can hang with the girls. More impressive is that she simply excels at everything she sets her mind to and she has that unique ability to win with grace.
Stop feeling sorry for this state championship, beauty queen, corruption fighting Governor. Saracuda is gonna be just fine! The woman is a killer!
bill kristol, the son of one of the founders of the modern neocon movement. I don't remember exactly where I read this but it was something about the neocons having once been Trotskites. IOW, the dread commie! But I guess that one can remake ones self into just about anything these days, including turning ones self from a wild eyed commie into a wild eyed uber war mongering patriot.. Wow.
JLM, you certainly have the right to your opinion but Palin has yet to succeed, much less excel at her current task, which is proving to the American voter that she does have the vast skills and knowledge you claim she has.
I have no doubt that Palin can “run with the boys and hang with the girls” (as you put it) in Alaska, but she has failed to do this on the national stage.
Don't take my word for it, look at the respected conservatives who have very serious issues with her (and some have even gone so far as to drop their support of her).
It's just not my opinion, it's many people's opinion and more and more people are coming around to believe this. They just look at the facts.
JLM, and another thing. Even camp McCain doesn't believe in Palin's abilities.
Let me ask you this. If you believe you own statement about Palin:
“She is the accomplished multidisciplined woman that feminism intended to evolve. She can run with the boys and she can hang with the girls. More impressive is that she simply excels at everything she sets her mind to and she has that unique ability to win with grace.”
Then why is she unable to perform half-way decently in interviews? Why does the McCain team keep her away from cameras? Why does McCain want to cancel the VP debate? Why isn't she out there more on her own, instead of campaigning next to McCain's side?
BTW: I don't feel sorry for Sarah Palin. She's proven she has skill and intelligence to handle Alaska politics. But she is not ready (yet) for national politics. Give her a few more years and she will be.
Actually I seriously wonder how well she would continue to do as more time goes by in Alaska. How would “Troopergate” have turned out without the intervention of the McCain campaign? The dairy disaster?
I never thought I'd say this, but I think Kristol is right. If Palin had been out there giving interviews every day, she'd probably have gotten better at it. Maybe good enough that her early, unsteady interviews could have been glossed over.
I also wonder what happened to the light-footed, witty (enough) John McCain. How come they replaced him with this whiny crank I keep seeing on TV?
GeorgeSorwell: “If Palin had been out there giving interviews every day, she'd probably have gotten better at it. Maybe good enough that her early, unsteady interviews could have been glossed over.
I understand what you're saying and I wholeheartedly agree that practice would improve her skills. But she lacks the foundation of knowledge about the world, she doesn't have her own thought-through opinions which will carry her through.
Palin can have all the skills in the world, but if she doesn't have nay ideas or beliefs or knowledge, those skills won't do her much good.
In fact I very firmly believe that in Alaska politics and campaigning she does come across very well, energetic and successful. And she is. In Alaska. But not on the national (much less world) stage. Her ideas and beliefs are Alaska-centric and not mainstream America.
Wow, you losers are really pathetic. Sara Palin is doing just fine. She will do just fine in the debates.
I guess you figure she was the championship point guard, beauty queen, got the Prom King, shoots moose and is the most popular Governor in the country by accident, eh? The lady has grit, detemination and poise. She is a killer!
Worry about the inch deep and a yard wide qualifications of your community organizer. After all, he's supposedly at the top of the ticket, isn't he? Talk about a lightweight! Help you couldn't become a journeyman plumber in the short time he's been in the Senate. I have taken to calling him the Professor — ya know what I mean?
If you got it, do it. If you don't, teach!
Saracuda is a killer and she will gut and field dress Joe Biden Thursday night. I bet she can skin him in less than 15 minutes!
Saracuda has got it. The O man is a great professor.
JLM, do you personally insult the teachers of your children, or just do it on blogs later?
Support Sarah Palin because she has an exceptional life story?? This sounds like a ringing endorsement of Barack Obama.
The fact is that Palin is dreadfully unprepared. Either John McCain is irresponsible for picking her, or he is just insane.
If he had gone with Tom Ridge, things would have been completely different. The “base”? Who cares about them? This is about governing America, not backwater hillbillies who believe dinosaurs were walking around with Moses or whatever.
Obama is not the best choice, just the only sane one.
Yes, by all means– free her. I'm sure the Obama camp could use some more sound bites of Palin well, being Palin. Why resort to using her family to defeat her- when she defeats her ticket every time she opens her mouth to the press? After the Couric interview, I understood why she's been in hiding.
JLM- Apparently she excels at everything except handling the press and giving a coherent interview, LOL!
If she's so strong and accomplished why are they hiding her as though she were some hothouse flower???

kritt, you forgot that Palin got a D in macro economics in college, she doesn't excel at that either!
And so during a time of economic crisis we have a Republican ticket with both folks at the top not knowing anything about economics….
Really she got a D? That ought to make my teenager feel better about her
calculus grade! We can now tell our kids you can be a D student and become
Vice President!
Why did she go to so many colleges?
“And so during a time of economic crisis we have a Republican ticket with both folks at the top not knowing anything about economics…”
I didn't think it mattered if the Prez knew anything about economics. The congress will do what the bankers want them to do, the bankers will do what the corp execs want
them to do…like now, with our present “bailout” being forced against the will of 88% of the American people, or whatever figure it really is.
