Obama’s Sagging Polls And Campaign And McCain’s Ascent
Meet the Press today reviewed some key overall and internal polling numbers that show major erosion for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama. The Democratic explanation — which is spin unless polls show otherwise — was given by New York Senator Chuck Schumer.

Time will tell if Schumer’s comments are wishful thinking or basic spin. One fact: in terms of nimbleness, toughness, and rapidity, the Obama campaign has been way behind the McCain campaign. It is beginning to look like Michael Dukakis versus the first George Bush all over again. And polls are reflecting a fact: to win in America’s political culture you have to know how to effectively fight in America’s political culture.

Senator Obama has decided to run a 50% plus 1 campaign. Senator Obama wants to hold onto as much of the traditional Democratic coalition as possible. Thus he will willing to cede middle class white voters to the Repubicans in order to keep public sector jobs, affirmative action, raical spoils, and higher taxes.
If Senator Obama would have thrown the black power estalbishment under the bus he would be leading by double digits, would really seem like a change candidate, and would still get 95% of the black vote.
Maybe the ideas of Axelrod work in big urban cities and small east coast states without many middle class white voters but when Senator Obama makes it clear that government workers are more important than private sector workers, he is working to keep the election close.
If you look at the Gallup tracker it's pretty clear that McCain's bounce has peaked and the race is settling close to even again.
Rasmussen showed it until a big 9/11 poll night pushed McCain ahead. We'll see tomorrow if they have it even again after the 9/11 number rolls out.
Yes, Palin energized the GOP. But the polling does not show any erosion among the Democratic base at all. And Independents are fickle as always. I bet the flattening out of McCain's post-RNC lead is coming from Independents who liked the RNC speech for McCain and are now disappointed by the return to dishonesty.
Also, Obama has proven time and again that he is nimble. If he were Dukakis, he would be done by now. But Obama fights differently than Bill Clinton. Obama does not turn every news cycle around to attack the way Clinton did. Instead, Obama lets his opponent build up a small case, and then turns it around and smashes his opponent. It's called rope-a-dope.
Right now he's doing it with the integrity issue. Elections are won on character as much as anything else. McCain has shown enough of his character the last few days for Obama to hang him with. Unless something else comes out that undermines Obama, I expect this race to settle back to a slight Obama lead again before the debate.
THEN, things will really heat up.
I tend to agree that the Obama campaign is entering a downward spiral…an emergency situation. Since we negated to do preventative surgery…when we had the chance back in August, we have to go to triage and slap this thing back together under field conditions…
We need to cut away the dead tissue and get a decent graft from another part of the body.

superdestroyer, what in the heck are you talking about? The Black Power Establishment are full of fringe groups that are minimal in scope. The NAACP, Rainbow Coalition, and PUSH are old guard black civil rights organizations, not black power.
I REALLY think the Dukakis comparisons aren't accurate. Obama hasn't rode in a tank with his head sticking out. And he's not about to DO THAT! He's too smooth for that. LOL!
The problem that Obama faces is shown right there is the video, a huge majority don't think he has the experience to lead. The Campaign trail is not where one accumlates alot of experiece for this category. Most Americans simply don't think he is ready yet.
Hell, I'll sooner listen to Politico than Chuck the Duck Schumer……..

If Senator Obama would come out and agree with the Supreme Court that the best way to end discriminaton is to stop discriminating he would be throwing the black power structure under the bus while gaining many middle class white voters. If Senator Obama said that no one should have to worry about not gaining a job, a college admission, or a seat in school because of their race, he would win by double digits and still get 95% of the black vote.
Yet, Senator Obama wants to have is white voters while holding on to minority set asides, Affirmative Action, quotas, and bussing. Then SEnator Obama staffers (all private school educated) wonder why the middle class will not vote for him.
Barak Obama has lost the election. AFter 20 months of watching him give the same speech America has Obama Fatigue.
Sarah Palin is the new Obama. 2 months will not change that and it will only show the democrats trying to make Sarah Palin look like trailer trash to defeat her. The numbers just keep slumping for Obama and firming up in waves for McCain/Palin.
The fat lady I am afraid is tuning up.
