Barack Obama: A Baby Boomer At Heart

21broder_600_1.jpg

I recommend a recent write-up on Barack Obama by Greg Sheridan, foreign editor of The Australian. Sheridan writes: “He (Obama) is technically a member of generation X, born just too late to be a baby boomer. Yet his consciousness is quintessentially that of the baby boomer.

“The best guide to who Obama is politically comes not from the millions of hagiographic and densely uncritical words penned by adoring media across the world but from Obama’s autobiographies and his legislative record as an Illinois state senator.

“It is no criticism of Obama that he has not been to war. But his confected existential angst is similar to Hillary Clinton’s fictional landing in Bosnia under imaginary sniper fire. It is the device, brilliantly executed by Obama, very clumsily by Hillary, of a politician desperate to self-dramatise.

“Oddly, it is the very cynicism and skill of this exercise that suggests to me Obama could yet make an effective president.” More here…

  • DLS
The Baby Boom in the USA encompasses the years 1946 to 1964.
  • DLS
Obama is attuned to the post-Boomer cohort among the electorate first and foremost, and is (mistakenly) often called a "post-Boomer" not due to when he was born because it's claimed (incorrectly) that it's one's attitude that defines one's self and Obama is reputed to have a Gen X attitude.

True DLS.......baby boomers have historically been defined as those born between 1946 and 1964. Therefore, Barack Barama is a baby boomer as he is 47 years old in 2008. (do the math).
