Cindy McCain, Heroic Peacemaker

I’m being facetious, of course. But she’s apparently on her way to war-torn Georgia, if she isn’t there already.

“McCain has been a staunch supporter of Georgia in that country’s clash with Russia, and sending his wife there underscores his commitment,” notes the AP. “It also could deflect attention from Michelle Obama’s convention speech in Denver as the Obama campaign seeks to introduce the family to voters.”

Really.

McCain may be a staunch supporter of Georgia, but he’s also a stupid one, rooted firmly in Cold War politics, talking tough with nothing to back it up but his own unstable temperament, pushing policies bound to aggravate Russia and drive a wedge into the heart of U.S.-Russian relations.

And now Cindy’s off to do what? Broker peace? Smile for the cameras and pretend she has a clue?

This is politics, nothing else, with the clear intention of undermining Michelle Obama: While she’s giving a speech, it will be said, Cindy McCain is off risking her manicure life in a dangerous foreign land. McCain may or may not care about Georgia, but he certainly cares about his political fortunes, and, as always, he’s willing to do anything, and take advantage of any opportunity, even sending his wife over to Georgia for a photo-op, to score points.

The media will no doubt give him a free pass — and Cindy, too (see Time, for example, which presents her as a courageous do-gooder unmotivated by political considerations) — because they always do, but the real McCain is fully in evidence here: dangerously wrong on policy, shamelessly opportunistic on politics.

He’s just grasping for attention this week. Try to ignore it.

A politician practicing politics, who'd a thunk it? It is a bitter pill to swallow that McCain has out foxed Obama, yet again. Not bad for an old codger.

Too bad that the Obamas haven't been able to find it in their hearts to do any of the charity work that the McCains have. In fact, Obama, who made about $4.2MM last year, can't even spare a few bucks, or a few minutes for a phone call or letter, for his impoverished half-brother. It's not only that Cindy McCain's trip to Georgia makes her look bad, it's that when contrasted with the actions of the Obamas or lack thereof, the Obamas look like shit.

I liked the mirror talk at the end of the start of this thread. [chuckle] Now after nothing it, I'll ignore "it."

It is a nice womanly thing Little Cindy McCain is doing and I am sure that it is going to pave the way nicely for her husband to rush in and save the world. Now if she could do something for all the vets who continue to rot away with substandard care it would be totally swell. It might also be a good idea to keep the pain killers locked up as well when she travels as well.

BTW doing something for her own half sister who's existence she doesn't acknowledge might be nice too.
  • jchem
I think she's just laying the groundwork for her own presidential run. Fast forward 12 or so years and we'll be hearing about all of this sniper fire she was under when she landed.

wait...who were we talking about again?? (sorry, couldn't resist)

I certainly agree with you Michael...I can't find any use other than political motivations for her to go over there. So who cares? No one's paying much attention anyway.
  • DLS
Michael overreacts in such a crazy manner. What I'm looking forward to are two unlikely events: a) McCain selects Huckabee for VP; b) McCain wins in November.

    [grin]

Well, she has to try to do something along with her husband to upstage and deflate the Obamas and Obama Week (this week).

    * * *

While we starve our heavy armor, and the huge budget ax awaits all branches of the military next year once Obama is in office, look who's adding beef (and spending big $$$)? That's what we'll do eventually in Georgia if we can get away with it, too.

(Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, why not also Iraq and for that matter, Georgia?)

Yeah DLS, screw the time honored tradition of political parties respecting each others conventions... What a pathetic attitude, but just another first from good ol' "High Road" McCain.
  • DLS
I don't see anything wrong with his attempt to "poach" Clinton voters. Crashing the convention and having someone run across the stage with a McCain sign or when dressed in an elephant costume would strike me as funny. As for the other things you commented on, well, it would certainly invite retaliation in future election years' conventions. Mainly it would just show the defensive, negative character of the GOP and the McCain campaign (nothing to offer, relying solely on attacking the other side).
  • christoofar
MSNBC's chyron reported last night that she was going to Georgia to "access civilian casualties". I guess no one else in the Bush Administration was available?
Not sure many Clinton supporters will be "poached" by this, but it might at least generate a few laughs. All "abored" the Straight Talkin' Pander-Bus.

    I'd call that presumptuous.
Too bad Mother Theresa's not there.

Is Cindy bringing Sinbad with her to Georgia? Inquiring minds want to know.

ah, the LongWArJournal- otherwise known as "How to milk the American populace for Billions in fraud waste and Abuse and call it "project management". Corporatized CIA, imho.

    From VSSA's own website.

"Vigilant Strategic Services Afghanistan (VSSA) was founded in 2006 by a group of experienced American and Afghan project managers. VSSA is a Project Management and Project Advisory firm. VSS operatives have proven track records assisting their clients in achieving their business objectives in some of the most difficult, volatile regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. can you say Hessians? I thought ya could.

Hahaha. First McCain mocks Obama for looking presidential on his overseas trips to meet foreign leaders, then McCain sends his wife into a war zone... Of course it's politics... But I'm also glad someone is doing it, though it is inappropriate for her to do so.

Of course I thought it was inappropriate for McCain to offer his wife to enter nto a strip contest in ND (or where ever it was) a month or so ago. It shows that McCain is willing to do anything, including trashing his wife's reputation and putting her life at risk, to win a few votes to become president. If he's willing to do that to her, what is he willing to do with the rest of us?

Call me crazy, but I prefer a president with more American values, such as hard work, a good education, raising one's family (without divorce) and making one's own way in the world. Offering one's wife to be in a strip show is a bit too much for my tastes.
  • RememberNovember
It would fit right in with the whole circus theme of American Politics, wouldn't it. I am just disgusted with the whole thing.

StockBoySF said: "Hahaha. First McCain mocks Obama for looking presidential on his overseas trips to meet foreign leaders, then McCain sends his wife into a war zone..."

We should have seen it coming. :-)

EDIT: After reading StockBoySF's entire comment I've removed the redundant portion in mine... Sorry SBSF gotta be the 95 degree weather (or not)!
  • Maybe she is just going to look for cheap real estate for their 12th house?
  • Rudi
Maybe she's going to talk to the Georgian presidents wife about Carolina Herrera dresses and pant suits This link shows how the McCain's feel for the middle class:
    Where Cindy shops!!
    Carolina Herrera
    Floral-Jacquard Jacket
    Price: $2,590.00
    BGF09_B0R61

    Carolina Herrera
    Floral-Jacquard Sheath Dress
    Price: $2,290.00
    BGF09_B0R60

Now who is the elitist family?
  • DLS
Nobody asked if she's going on one of their aircraft or on a taxpayer-paid publicity-stunt junket ^H^H^H^H^H^H "support mission."

    (a.k.a. a political-liability dilemma)
  • StockBoySF
SteveK, no problem, thanks! If you're redundant, that's quite alright. I like your comment (we should have seen it coming). Perhaps we should start a contest to predict the next bone-headed McCain move.... :)
  • kritt11
Maybe she'll meet Cheney for lunch, since he's been sent there as special envoy by W (so that no one wonders why he's not at the Repubs convention, LOL)
