Around The Campaign 2008 Sphere

iuyt.gif

The campaign is boiling. Yesterday’s screaming story: McCain and his houses. Today’s percolating screaming story: a report Obama didn’t vet Hillary Clinton for Veep. Here’s a roadmap to some great links to political posts from sites of varying viewpoints.

Karl Rove Loses A Republican: Susan Eisenhower is leaving the GOP for good due to Rove-style politics.

It’s reported Obama didn’t vet Clinton but could the timing of this latest story be a bit suspect? Here’s one view (some adult language).

Question: Is the source (a) a Democrat official who felt he/she wanted to talk to The Politico about it, and why? What would be the motive be to put this out on the eve of Obama’s Veep announcement? (b) a Democrat who isn’t close to the party? Likely impact: even Hillary supporters have expressed concern about her lukewarm hype for Obama amid polls showing that the anti-Obama Hillary voters could be a key factor in costing him the election. Bottom line: the story is going to likely accentuate Democratic Party divisions — which will last beyond 2012.

ON THE OTHER HAND some see indications Obama could be poised to pick her.

What is Hillary “really” up to? Some thoughts from Right Wing News’ John Hawkins.

And Hillary Clinton is in the news with a New York Times article about how her supporters found her Obama support tepid at a Florida rally.
A Daily Kos writer warns of long term political consequences for her.

The debate over “elitist” candidates and what it means goes on.

Political dirty text tricks:
Some of the folks who signed up to be informed of Obama’s Veep choice by text message are getting phoney text messages.

John McCain held a press conference call about a meaty issue
– health care. Details.

Political junkies may be in political heaven over the Obama-McCain mudfest but some wonder “are we done yet?”

What’s this? Some Hollywood celebrities are rallying for McCain. CELEBRITIES for McCain? (He’ll reject their support, I’m sure….)

The New Politics defined?

You knew you’d see it:
separated at birth?

  1. DLS says:

I'd like to see the candidates address broad and even stretchy as well as pertinent issues. Maybe the debates will be worthwhile this year or the two candidates will start discussing serious items.

    * I want more specifics on their energy policy.

    * What does each side say precisely on the notion of a bailout of Detroit?

    * If we want our troops out of Iraq but need a US presence in the Middle East to stop future trouble, why don't we commit more forces to next-door Kuwait? (Unless it is successfully argued that pre-positioning of materiel is sufficient and is better, less controversial regionally, than stationing large numbers of military personnel.)

    * Inflation is a concern, but deflation cannot be ignored, especially if the federal government intervenes too harshly against inflation or demand simply subsides because people are out of jobs or homes. What do the candidates have to say?

  2. The reason I'm not buying into the mudfest is because this was _supposed_ to be the year of “clean campaigns.” Both candidates promised it. Both candidates haven't delivered on that promise.

On a side note, I should switch to my real name here. Update: Done!
