    An *** EFFECT *** ? Nothing substantial.

Reading the comments to your column, a lot of people seem to think a vote for Barr is the same as a vote for Obama.

I can see where he could play a spoiler role in a few states. I'm curious as to how well he'll do in Ohio since in the last presidential election the Constitution Party's nominee was able to get 2% of the vote. If Barr could pull a similar percentage the two combined could tip the scales in Obama's favor.

  4. Some of the comments to that thread are typical, and hilarious. Oh my God! Someone is using democracy to express a sentiment that they may not agree with the other options! Blasphemy!

I particularly like the “A vote for Barr takes votes away from McCain” quips. Yea, well, a vote for Obama takes votes away from McCain, and a vote for McCain takes votes away from Obama. Yet, I never hear anyone whining about that.

First of all, congrats on 55 comments…….you're doing better than the entire daily comment inventory of most blogs.

Unfortunately, Barr lacks the leadership charisma to be a viable candidate despite the superior logic of the libertarian philosophy. Without the charisma, there is no money and without the money the message doesn't get out.

The reality of national politics is that campaign charisma wins all elections. As a result, the U.S. will once again take a trek into socialism until it is reminded how miserable an answer to governance that is.

The only silver lining I see for the next four years is that the flight of capital into tax free municipals will help improve the infrastructure and freshen the power of governance at the state and local levels.

As the U.S. becomes a one party state, all other candidates are irrelevant. BArr is as relevant as the Republican candidate for U.S. House in Harlem.

Instead of wasting time worrying about third parties when the U.S. barely has a second party, people should discuss should politics will work in the coming one party state. Look at the recent U.S. House races where the winner of the Democratic primary gives a victory speech because they know that have already won the general election.

It is hard to call libertarians logical when the support unlimited immigration of people who demand more government services. They are too stupid to realize that open borders and unlimited immigration mean more government and less freedom.
