In my humble opinion, in life as in politics, “bold” is a courageous, adventurous, plucky, intrepid move or action that rejects the “we have always done it this way” mentality; that goes against political, racial, religious, gender, age, etc., conventions and prejudices and whatever other walls, barriers, taboos there may be that keep rational, intelligent men and women from making the right decisions for themselves and, in this case, for their country. In effect, using such differences and elimination of “barriers” to truly make good choices.
From such perspective, the boldest Vice Presidential choices McCain and Obama could make would be:
For John McCain, the (relatively) junior Democratic U.S. Representative from Texas, Sheila Jackson Lee.
For Barack Obama, the (relatively) senior Republican U.S. Senator from Texas, Kay Bailey Hutchison.
P.S. 1 The fact that I am from the great State of Texas has nothing to do with these recommendations
P.S. 2 My apologies for the “relative” age comparisons to John McCain and Kay Bailey Hutchison
P.S. 3 I said “bold,” not: “to be counted upon.”
Bold… very bold.
– If McCain picked a Democrat as VP the hard right would go ballistic.
– If Obama picked a Republican as his VP the far left would go ballistic.
Hasn't Hutchison been mentioned as a VP for McCain?
Shelia Jackson Lee is one of the few politicians in DC who can make Senator McCain look competent. She is also one of the few in DC who is worse at delivering a scripted speech than Senator McCain.
Perhaps that is part of the “bold” choice and plan
Why would Obama want a doctrinaire, toe-the-party-line Republican for VP?
