Up in Arms over Nuclear Weapons

It’s an unorthodox alliance. George Shultz (Secretary of State during the Reagan administration), Henry Kissinger (Nixon’s National Security Advisor), William Perry (Clinton’s second Secretary of Defense), and Sam Nunn (former Senator from Georgia) have united around a common cause: The complete disarmament of the world’s nuclear arsenal.

Schultz and the others have it absolutely right.

This is what we should have been focusing on istead of the short-sighted current policy of arming everyone in sight. This is another apportunity to lead, which has so far been ignored.
If the US wants to keep a foot in the door of international power, it's got to get past misusing its power for short term objectives and start to show leadership in tackling today's global problems..

    That's absolutely great!

It's naive. The fears are there given not only Iran's efforts but with the specter of nuclear weapons being acquired and used by terrorists someday. There even are technical and political and philosophical issues worth exploring that are related to these things. However it's naive to have faith and hope in universal disarmament; it's almost as foolish as believing in world government. (Both things were strongly in force during the formation of the United Nations and the original debates over nuclear weapons policy.)
