I must admit that I'm SHOCKED to find myself not only reading something that Karl Rove wrote - but also agreeing with much (if not all) of it. My world is crashing down around me...
It's better than what he wrote in the Wall Street Journal about Obama.
It's true, too. Speeches full of sound bites that in their entirety can be said to be sound bites will go only so far. Obama risks being seen like Lamar Alexander (substituting a young, fresh face for Alexander's plaid shirts and piano playing) -- Dole had the "old ideas," Buchanan had the "wrong ideas," but he, Alexander, had "new ideas." We the voters began screaming (if only to ourselves), "WHAT new ideas?" He never told us what these "new ideas" were. Obama needs to start telling us more. He cannot count merely on being in a stronger position than Clinton and on youth orientation (or, ageism) to defeat McCain. OK, he looks good, is as capable as the other two candidates, and a lot of kids like him and black Americans and activists see him as someone to be proud of, especially if he wins in November. But first he has to win the nomination (likely) and then win in November (uncertain).
Turns out in December that Rove gave Obama this advice:
Sharpen your attacks and make them more precise.
Now he says:
Stop the attacks. They undermine your claim to a post-partisan new politics.
What a genius!

ouch (what Chris said)

Since Rove is responsible for politicizing 9/11 and the Iraq War and driving Independents and some Republicans out of the party, I'd take any advice he gave a Democrat with a grain of salt.
He is a commentator on Fox, yet he is helping McCain's campaign with Bush's blessing, and now giving advice to Obama???He's got to know that any Democrat in the WH will encourage more congressional investigations of all of those missing emails. Whatta snake!
DLS
Dick Morris is happy to give Obama and McCain advice, too. He used to work for the Clintons and now is on a vendetta against them.

DLS-
Morris gave Clinton crappy advice about the Lewinsky scandal and Clinton ended up getting impeached. After Clinton replaced him with David Gergen, he was able to repair some of the damage and ended his presidency on a high note (except for pardonning Marc Rich of course!) Anyway, Morris never forgave him and became bitter and vindictive. He now attacks them at every opportunity which is why he's a regular on Fox!
DLS
Morris made an appearance once in St. Louis (Barnes & Noble on Maryland Avenue in Ladue, specifically) when I still lived there, and naturally I went to hear what he had to say. (It turned out to be the same things he said when interviewed on the air -- a canned speech, in effect.) At that time I got on the e-mail list (even if I don't agree with him, he has insight at times and is worth reading once in a while), and I continue to get occasional "bulletins," which mainly are yes, bitter and vindictive attacks on Clinton. I would say that yes, that is why he is on Fox.
Marc Rich was not the only disturbing pardon. However, we've all got accustomed to the Clintons and their antics for years now and despite their past behavior we are not surprised to see one of them (officially) seeking to regain the White House and we aren't panicked or bewildered given that we have experience with them already. If Clinton gets nominated and then elected, I'll just echo one of the rare things I heard a righty commentator say years ago (in 2000, I believe): "Go ahead, [let's] get it overwith."
DLS
Meanwhile, while I believe Clinton could press her campaign all the way to the elections, Howard Dean wants an earlier resolution to choosing a nominee: he wants one or the other candidate out of the race after the June primaries and the superdelegates to choose someone before they are legally required to do so.
D-Yeah, I'm surprised he finally dropped the idea of running Condi Rice against her. That's the kind of wisdom that he spouted on Fox-even writing a book about it. I honestly don't get why any one gives his ideas credence- as that one would certainly cause the GOP to tank in November! Condi's not even being considered for VP, because it would recall the foreign policy errors of the last few years.
BTW- I agree that many of the Clinton pardons were a terrible idea-- but the Marc Rich pardon was the one that got the most attention in the media. Remember who presented the pardon to then President Clinton? Rich's attorney, Scooter Libby!
