Dear Washington Post – do you think your politics blogger could LINK to original research, even if it is tongue-in-cheek?
This chart from the Washington Post GovBeat is making the rounds. Although there is credit given …
That research comes from consumer data supplied by GFK MRI, and analyzed by Jennifer Dube of National Media Research Planning and Placement, an Alexandria-based Republican consulting firm. (links added, not in the original)
… there are no details. There is no link to a news release or research report.
So take it with the proverbial grain of salt.
That said, lefties seem to drink a lot more than righties (no idea if there were more Ds than Rs in the sample) and almost no one seems to drink single malts (or blended Scotch for that matter). All we know about the sample is that N=49,770.
If you take the skew point from 20-up, I don’t drink anything that those Republicans drink, although I drank Mondavi wines in my 40s. I do have DeKuyper and Maker’s Mark in the bar. (Most of our bourbons are reserve singles, not blends.)
And from -20-down, I drink only a few (Patron, Moet & Chandon, “champagne”) that those Democrats drink. I do have Courvoisier, Jameson and Tanqueray in the bar. Mostly, I drink single malt Scotch; I drank The Glenlivet (almost on the vertical 0) in my 20s and 30s and we keep it around for guests who are new to single malts.
So … does the chart match your style? Your anecdotal experience?
