The Compassion Forum – A Few Brief Thoughts

The moderators seemed to come armed with an agenda, at least as I read it. Hillary Clinton, by comparison, received a series of softball questions centering on the most important moments of her life when God spoke to her, etc. The exceptions were questions each candidate shared in common, including whether life begins at conception, etc.

The questions for Obama included a large number of very aggressive “gotcha” questions on the “bitter” remarks, Reverend Wright, and other subjects. (Anyone who would care to submit examples of the “tough questions” Hillary received are welcome to do so in comments.) The effort, from what I saw, fell flat. The crowd went heavily for Obama as he fielded tough questions and clarified his positions well.

The contrast between the two performances was striking, and Obama effectively hit it out of the park. If these questions were ad hoc, with neither candidate having access to them ahead of time, Obama showed once again how well he can handle himself when cornered and won the audience over.

More tomorrow.

Hillary calling Obama an “elitist” during the Compassion Forum did not come across as very Christian like.

Hillary didn't call him an elitist, she said he SEEMED elitist. Obama very much shares Bush's agenda on “abstinence” which was again allocated way too much money, a program that is not working.
Obama was out of touch with age groups of girls, not so much the 12 years old, but the 14-17 yr. group. Again, he call the mistake “Dumb”, and doesn't
    place responsiblity on the boys!
As always, it is expected that in his debates/forums he tends to run the middle
of the road, always play it safe, heck he has never been sent to the corner like
    Hillary has!

Here was my first response, which you sadly and frankly disgustingly have fallen into:

It was about faith and coming together for better causes, so the commentary and punditry will naturally be about hate and how each candidate did better than the other.

“Hit it out of the park.” ??? to add on, you were cliched. Pathetic.

I'm generally disgusted having to think about what will ensue, so don't take it personally but your quick missive was simplistic and horrible.

You aren't the first one to wonder about the agenda of CNN in the forum. I have already seen remarks about the softballs lobbed to Clinton and gotchas at Obama.
But, if CNN hoped to help Hillary and take down Obama they were sadly informed by the audience that they were having none of it.
She got zero reaction to her snide comments on Obama and only got polite applause when she came in and at the end.
When Obama was introduced the audience was very lively and big time response during and at the end.
I am thinking this the audiences way of letting Hillary and her cohorts at CNN they are not buying what they are selling and are firmly with Obama. They will not allow the swiftboating attempt.
I am just surprised that after the media has declared his campaign dead several times already this season and he keeps defying them and their conventional wisdom, why they have not gotten it that the people are not playing the medias or the old fashioned politics of the clintons and the gop this time.

Really, why would you think this?
