As many as 700 people registered to testify at Thursday’s hearing in Austin over a bill to severely restrict abortion in Texas.
The Texas legislature is in special session, ostensibly about redistricting, where rules are more lax than normal according to the Dallas Morning News
House Bill 60, sponsored by Republican Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks except for the life of the mother or severe fetal abnormality. According to a CDC study, only 1.4% of all abortions are performed after 20 weeks.
