Rational Choices

Note to CNN: Contrary to popular belief, when faced with a choice between a Black man and a White woman, Black women do not behave like a science-fiction robot and self-destruct due to irresolvable paradox. Rather, just as I am capable of making a rational decision about who I am voting for even though I have so many White boys to choose from (even though I ended up not selecting any of them), Black women are likewise capable of making rational decisions as to their political preferences even though both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are running.

Further point of amazement: perhaps their difficulty in choosing between them is due less to being identity slaves, and more to the fact that they seem to genuinely like both candidates?

There is no question who black women will support. Since the black vote is overwhelmingly female and the black vote is supporting Senator Obama, that means that black women are going to choose race over gender.

The real question is whether middle class and upper middle class white women will vote for Senator Obama. The exiting polling seems to indicate that white males have a much easier time voting for blacks than white females. Of course, any sports fans could have told you that it is common for suburban white males to follow black athletes but that white upper middle class white women still refuse to be interested in black female athletes.

Besides, suburban white women are going to identify with Hillary Clinton because those suburban white women would never send their daughters to inner city schools any more than Hillary Clinton would have sent Chelsea to a school that was majority black.
