The good news is that our President will be elsewhere much of next year, giving him less time in Washington to start disastrous wars and subvert the Constitution.
The bad news: He will be abroad, winning hearts and minds for America with his wit, warmth and incomparable charm.
In early January, Bush makes his first visit to Israel with side trips to the West Bank, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt…
Cross-posted from my blog. More here.
Couldn’t we send him to Puerto Rico? Or perhaps Somoa?
Sorry, Davebo: The Big W goes where he wants to go and does what he wants to do.
Is Bush really going to spend his last year begging and pleading with the leaders of other countries to do him a favor and help him achieve some sort of positive legacy?
Or…
I really hope to God that he doesn’t go sticking his nose in areas that he doesn’t understand. If he does, then he really does want to go out in style… And here I was thinking it was safe to finally visit other countries again. Hoping that the rest of the world would be kind to us Americans now that we have a chance to set things right again with the upcoming elections in Nov. But if Bush goes on a grand tour mucking things up….
What can he really hope to accomplish? His stated goals of democratizing the region have caused it to destabilize, which will unfortunately lead to crackdowns on nascent democratic movements in the ME. In other words, he’s achieved the opposite of his stated purpose, as well as committing the US to two losing wars. (the illusion of “winning” Iraq is a myth since we are just treading water while the Iraqis dither)
