Get involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs in your community. Having recently served on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Clermont County for four years, I can vouch that the clubs do change young people’s lives for the better. And that’s good for our communities…ultimately for our country.
From the ‘Better Living’ archives, here are posts I’ve written on the Boys and Girls Clubs: here, here, here, and here.
Don’t forget the Salvation Army bell ringers. Between the EEOC and the ITS both groups need all the help they can get.
My son was a volunteer bellringer for the Salvation Army in our community this past week. I intend to volunteer as well.
But I hope that people will look into supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs in their areas. This is a great and effective movement!
Thanks for your comment.

Your message is wasted on me, Mark–because I’m already a B&GC volunteer. Get off your butts and do something good in the real world, people. There’s more to life than blogs.
My second comment in a day agreeing wholeheartedly on this blog. What’s next, the dead rising from their graves? Cats and dogs living together? Mass hysteria!
I work every day to change lives for the better but do not see the Salvation Army as a proponent of that goal. As a Jewish lesbian, I’m not about to put money in the kettle of an anti-gay, anti-Semitic organization. I have worked with alcoholics and addicts living in SA facilities, seen and been told of the seamy, abusive side of the SA.
