Iraq: “Heart” not “Statistics” Required

I read some posts rejoicing that the killings have come down in Iraq. Thereby implying that the US administration’s policy is on the verge of success. Beware…

Read the latest report: “The U.S. military on Tuesday announced the deaths of five more soldiers, making 2007 the deadliest year for U.S. troops despite a recent downturn,” according to an Associated Press count.

At least 852 American military personnel have died in Iraq so far this year — the highest annual toll since the war began in March 2003, according to AP figures.

“The grim milestone passed despite a sharp drop in U.S. and Iraqi deaths here in recent months, after a 30,000-strong U.S. force buildup. There were 39 deaths in October, compared to 65 in September and 84 in August.”

One Response to “Iraq: “Heart” not “Statistics” Required”

  1. Agree this is the worst year of the war, no question. However you are really missing the story.

I wrote an analysis on this topic: “U.S. Fatalities significantly down for 2 consecutive months. Why?”

This is a significant story. The reasons the death rate is down for the past 2 months are varied and NOT what many believe are the reasons for this. I invite you to read and challenge my conclusions if you find them wrong but I can tell you that it isn’t because of the “surge”. Peaked your interest yet?
