Mitt Romney Goes Birther, Says ‘No One Ever Asked to See My Birth Certificate’

Aug 24, 2012 by

In another move to show that he likes to align himself with the worst elements in the Republican Party,  Mitt Romney joined the birther movement by saying ” no one has ever asked to see my birth certificate.” No, that’s too beneath him. Real classy Mitt, but nobody ever asked Obama about his magic underwear, or all hell would break loose.

“I love being home, in this place where Ann and I were raised, where but the both of us were born,” Romney said after introducing his wife, fellow Michigan native Ann. “No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place where we were born and raised.” Source: Talking Points Memo

Mitt Romney palls around with birthers — Donald Trump, Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Kris Kobach:

“Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them,” said Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt.

Referring to so-called “birthers” who are expected to be at next week’s Republican convention, LaBolt said:

“It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff (Joe) Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.” Source

Here’s another response from the Obama campaign:

Mitt Romney is like an acrobat — twisting his body every way possible to appeal to everyone in the Republican Party, even the extremist wingnuts. Funny Mitt Romney should joke about Obama’s birth certificate, all the while refusing to release his tax returns. Wow. Totally hypocritical. He also asked the Obama campaign for a truce when the attacks on his business record were coming fast and furious. Mitt can dish it but he can’t take it.

UPDATE: Rush Limbaugh cheers Romney’s comment on his show: “Right on! Right on! Right on!”

    Really really bad joke.

Yes he is… And he’d be an even worse President.

Mittens is an.. George wasn’t even born in the USA, yet he ran for POTUS and no one questioned his parents or birth right. Mittens daddy screwed up on the Lou Gordon Show, that’s what killed him off, not the Nixon henchmen.

Romney was born to American parents living in the Mormon colonies in Mexico; events during the Mexican Revolution forced his family to flee back to the United States when he was a child. The family lived in several states and ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they struggled during the Great Depression. Romney worked in a number of jobs, served as a Mormon missionary in England and Scotland, and attended several colleges in the U.S. but did not graduate from any. In 1939 he moved to Detroit and joined the American Automobile Manufacturers Association, where he served as the chief spokesman for the automobile industry during World War II and headed a cooperative arrangement in which companies could share production improvements.

Romney was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 1968. While initially a front-runner, he proved an ineffective campaigner, and fell behind Richard Nixon in polls. Following a mid-1967 remark that his earlier support for the Vietnam War had been due to a “brainwashing” by U.S. military and diplomatic officials in Vietnam, his campaign faltered even more, and he withdrew from the contest in early 1968.

I’ll soon be 75 and the only time anyone wanted to see my birth certificate was when I got a work permit at age 14. I didn’t have a birth certificate, don’t know why because, unusually for those days, I was born in a hospital. Had to get both parents and one grandparent to sign a form that I was born and where and when. I now have a birth certificate, but I doubt I’ll ever need it again. Of course I haven’t tried to vote yet this year.

Don’t worry, no need for a BC, but you’ll need to give blood and urine before entering the both.

The_Ohioan I’m not excusing the birthers, but I’ve had to produce a birth certificate at various times over the years for various schools and licenses. My daughter just got a new job a month ago and had to show a copy of hers. It’s not that out of the ordinary.

As I recall, wasn’t Mittens presumed dead in France for a time? I thought dead men couldn’t be president although I suppose it could explain quite a bit about him.

Meant to add (tongue firmly in cheek) to above

Just a couple of questions. Do you live in Arizona? :-) Is your daughter’s job a government job or in security of some kind? What kind of schools and licensing required a birth certificate? I can’t think of any reason for a birth certificate except for government jobs or security positions. And voting.

Jokes that basically boil down to “he’s black and I’m white, and we all know who you’re going to believe!”, meaning the US thought process that white dudes are American and everyone else is illegitimate just really aren’t all that funny.

TO my daughter’s job is with a heavy equipment company in Illinois. I don’t want to get into specifics on my schooling and licensing, but there are some licenses where the government makes darn sure you are who you say you are.

Maybe obamas real first name is Osama? We need to make sure he is who he says he is…..

I don’t know if it was intended to show sympathy to the birther movement, only because I can’t believe they’d be so stupid to think that was a good idea, but it sure was a tasteless joke. The worst part, in my opinion, is that Romney refuses to admit that it he was referring to the birther issue at all, which requires a suspension of disbelief only a true partisan could muster.

For once, I’d like to hear a major politician man up (excuse the sexist phrase) and say, “Yeah, that was stupid. Sorry.” I’d probably vote for that person.

    Hello there

As a person that lives outside U.S: I have a question for you all.
Regarding peoples birth certificate, is it not more important who your parents are than the physical location of your birth?

As I understand, Obamas mother is from Hawaii and is a U.S. citizen so why is there any question about if he is a U.S. citizen too ?

  15. The_Ohioan

    RDK

Well, you see it’s complicated. Obama’s mother was born in Kansas which is a state, but some Kansans don’t think like people in other states; and Obama was born in Hawaii which some statesiders are dubious is really a state. And the constitution was amended to make citizens of anyone born in a US state no matter where their parents are from. You can see how confusion can arise. Actually we can’t answer why there is any question about Obama’s citizenship. I hope this clears it up for you.
