A Gallery of Chick-A-Fil Cartoons
So now what we eat becomes a political statement — not only what WE are eating but by eating it, how some will PERCEIVE us.
You can just imagine it, can’t you, people trying to make a statement showing up at a political rally held by a group they oppose and flauntingly stuffing their faces with Chick-A-Fil sandwiches.
Any day now I expect a chain that serves chicken to start offering right wings and left wings.
Us moderates would as usual get another part of the chicken (it’s lowermost part, just like we get in Congress).
Here’s a Cagle cartoon gallery of Chick-A-Fil cartoonists.

“Any day now I expect a chain that serves chicken to start offering right wings and left wings.”
First off, that is genius and if no one is yet doing that they totally should. Second, I’m actually pretty impressed with how we handle this chicken scandal. This is how its supposed to work. For once, a head of a massive corporation comes out and says clearly where they stand on something without worrying about upsetting people. Good for him. Unfortunately, at least in my opinion, he’s a bigot and promotes his views through his privately owned chain. But no one is doing anything illegal, and although the conversation has gotten pretty heated, mostly from an indignant left, things are working exactly as they should in America. I know not to eat there if I want to keep my conscience clear, and plenty of social conservatives know where to spend a buck to support a business that thinks like they do. And no one got hurt. Unless you count cholesterol counts.
Or chickens. Many, MANY chickens got hurt.
@slamfu
This is especially intriguing since citizens-united.
Is this WORSE or BETTER than “non profit” 501s?
At least corporations have to pay taxes.
Unless they dont. Many dont.
Your perspective is VERY interesting.
if people started voting with their wallets, as many have argued for years, wouldn’t that be a step in the right direction?
or as you say — “This is how its supposed to work” — even if we disagree strongly?
Did the toyota prius sell well because it was gas efficient, or a political statement?

I mostly agree with slamfu. This is the way things should work, with people peacefully airing their opinions and voting with their wallets.
The major villains in this have to be Rahm Emanuel and Mayor Menino. Hopefully most people on both the right and left understand government trying to keep out businesses due to the religious beliefs of their owners is a really bad idea.
Where I disagree with slamfu is whether Cathy is a bigot – I have no idea if he is or not. Gay marriage is a topic reasonable people can disagree on.
@DaGoat..there are opinions that would support one being a bigot and one not being a bigot.
If you are very religious and believe in the scripture without regard to interpretation, then you can find passages that support the anti-gay/lesbian position and one should not be called a bigot in that regard.
On the otherhand, if you do not beleive in the literal words in the bible or are not religious at all, then what one calls a moral position based on religious teachings can become a bogoted positions when not based on biblical teachings.
And then to further gray the waters, there are positions churches take that are somewhere in the middle where gay/lesbian orientation is considered normal and acceptible.
DaGoat — But you do realize that it’s not just marriage that these groups getting money from Cathy are working toward, right? I mean, one of the groups lobbied heavily not to intervene in the Ugandan “Kill the Gays” bill. Actively supporting the death of gay people doesn’t seem particularly reasonable to me. Of course, neither does the idea that religious views of some people trump the civil rights of other people. Something goes into that thought process, but “reason” ain’t it.
roro I don’t know much more about Cathy than I’ve read in mainstream articles. From that limited knowledge I don’t know if he’s a bigot or not. If you feel he’s a bad guy then certainly don’t give Chick-Fil-A your business.
I won’t, thanks. I’m just pointing out that being against gay rights isn’t particularly reasonable. Not just if you happen to own a chicken franchise. The people who work actively against gay people to “preserve traditional marriage” do a great deal of harm outside of just trying to keep gay people from forming legal families.
“The major villains in this have to be Rahm Emanuel and Mayor Menino.”
BTW, I’ve got to call a little shenanegans on this too. The statements were pretty clear to stay away from saying that they would take any legal actions against allowing permits, etc, if CFA were to apply for them. They were expressing their opinions on the matter. You know, just like Cathy. If they were to actively do something illegal by denying permits on the basis of this, that would of course be wrong. But telling them they don’t want CFA in their city certainly isn’t villainous.

I very much disagree with this statement. I don’t care what it says in any book, the fact is this is denying rights to a segment of population that the rest of us enjoy. Just because its wrapped up in a religious package doesn’t make it acceptable under our system of civil rights and fairness. The bible also has quite a few sections showing that its just fine with slavery, but that doesn’t make it right in America in the year 2012. Religions are free to practice their own beliefs, like not endorsing gay marriage, but they aren’t allowed to foist those same rules of their faith on those who don’t follow it.
On the ‘Far Side’…Does anyone remember this back in 2010?
” Bolivian president Evo Morales caused a stir today at an environmental conference by saying he is convinced that eating chicken causes men to go bald and become homosexual, according to the UK Guardian.”

I don’t give a rat’s ass on what Cathy believes… What is wrong is that he and the “traditional family values” group force their views on others.
If he doesn’t want to marry a guy, and wants to marry a woman, that’s fine with me. I don’t care WHO he marries and he (and the rest of the family values people) has the freedom to marry whom he wants.
However THEY are keeping me from enjoying the same freedoms that they enjoy. That is the whole point. I give them the respect of their opinions and let them live how they want, but they do not respect my opinions and believe they somehow can tell me (a stranger) how to live my life.
If they want to live their lives how they want to, that’s fine. But they can’t demand to have that freedom while actively taking away that same freedom from other citizens.
