ByeBye Ice, Hello Oil

Nicole Belle links to this video and article at Discovery about the melting of ice near the north pole as a result of global warming.

It seems that, according to researchers, all the ice there will be gone by 2050. The bad news? Say goodbye to quite some life. The good news? Say hello to oil.

The melting ice is a blessing for oil companies which see a potential treasure opening up before their very eyes.

Which helps to explain the oil companies’ decision to offer large fees to researchers who were able to come up with alternate theories to global warming, in order to give credence to gw denials. Those theories counteract the impression that the world’s scientific community has reached a consensus, and thus help to impede action advised by environmentalists.

Well if history is any indicator oil companies aren’t going to be willing to explore the area unless they feel certain that oil prices will remain at least above $70.00 a barrel.

Arctic exploration and production is incredibly expensive.
