Wake Me Up When September Ends

A reader suggested video for on TMV since it would certainly generate some discussion given TMV’s ideologically diverse readership (we know some people on all sides are bound to want to leave their analysis of it in comments).

This video of Green Day’s Wake Me Up When September Ends has received more than 1,600,000 viewings on You Tube. The song is presented in as an anti-war video. The song won as best song in the 2006 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and the album (dealing with post 911 American attitudes) from which it came won a Grammy in 2005.

    Actually the song is about more than 9/11. The lead singer Billy Joe Armstrong’s father died a few days before that happened, and this is about his death and 9/11 happening causing all the feelings to be compounded.

    Song is from a great album, American Idiot. Concept album which tells a story as it goes along, this song is the only one that isn’t part of the story actually.

    If we are to believe Wikipedia Armstrong’s father died 20 years ago.
