Romney, Danny DeVito: Separated at Birth?

Jumping on a weaker-than-expected jobs report, the Etch-a-Sketch candidate is telling crowds, “The reason I’m so animated about defeating Barack Obama is because he’s failed the American people.”

Yet, as he promises voters more wealth, Mitt Romney is still going to great lengths to hide his own.

In 48 accounts from Bain Capital, on financial disclosure forms the GOP candidate-to-be fails to “identify the underlying assets, including his holdings in a company that moved U.S. jobs to China and a California firm once owned by Bain that filed for bankruptcy years ago and laid off more than 1,000 workers.

“Those are known only because Bain publicly disclosed them in government filings and on the Internet. But most of the underlying assets–the specific investments of Bain funds–are not known because Romney is covered by a confidentiality agreement with the company.”

At the brink of the real Presidential campaign, it’s hard to tell if Romney spent his Wall Street time as the job creator he claims to be or as the Danny DeVito character, Larry the Liquidator, in the 1991 movie, “Other People’s Money:”

“The entrepreneur of post-industrial America, playing God with other people’s money. The robber barons of old at least left something tangible in their wake–a coal mine, a railroad, banks. This man leaves nothing. He creates nothing. He builds nothing. He runs nothing. And in his wake lies nothing but a blizzard of paper to cover the pain.”

Be careful who you call an etch-a-sketch candidate for president.

“This man leaves nothing. He creates nothing. He builds nothing. He runs nothing. And in his wake lies nothing but a blizzard of paper to cover the pain.”

I suppose that would make him perfect presidential material in the eyes of today’s GOP.

  • RP

Zephyr..he is perfect presidential material and that is why he was elected in 2008. He never created anything before becomeing a politician. He never built any business. He never ran a business. And in his lies he promised during his campaign, he has only given the American busniess environment a blizzqard of paperwork and presidential directives that has caused mountians of pain that reduces employment and discourages business development.

But the GOP does not beleive he is perfect presidential material and that is why they want him out of office

What does starting a business have to do with being a president? Obama has kept the economy from tanking since he took office. Anyone who thinks things should have been fixed by now, including the President during his campaign speeched, needs to shut up and take an econ class because they obviously don’t understand the depth of the situation this country was put in thanks to the barely regulated finance industry. The fact we didn’t slide into a Depression should be taken as a victory and a narrow one at that. That fact the economy has been steadily improving for the last 3 years despite the monumental failures of the PRIVATE SECTOR, is proof that Obama is a net positive for this country, not a failure. You want to see an abject failure and a total destruction of the gains made in the last few years, elect a Republican.

Slamfu..There are many ways to provide the economy with stimulus without wasting money on things like bankrucpt solar companies bankrupt car companies (Fisker) and many other things that have proven to not work. He is still proposing a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit and his projections don’t even balance the budget into 2040.

How long do you think we can continue building debt with deficit spending until all hell breaks loose.

I may not be around when it does, but I would like to think that someone in Washington would have the mental capacity to understand there is a limit to deficit spending and when that limit is reached, my grand children, who are not able to vote and have a voice in this mess, are going to be the ones in a country much less prosperious than we have today.

But since most Americans are in debt up to the eyeballs, many of those think the country can do what they do and not have to pay anyone back.

Ditto what slam said. Given O’s inheritance things could have been much, much worse. Of course republicans never want to own up to that, just as they refuse to own up to all their other failures. Etch-A-Sketch.

The Republicans were basically given no choice when things went sour in 1929–the people blamed them (imho rightly so). In 2007-2008 the people once again blamed the Republicans for the disaster (not entirely their fault this time, but still not totally off the mark). The difference between then and now (that I can see) is that Fox News, other Murdock media outlets, talk radio, etc. seem to have blinded much of the public as to what went on. They did this by the Orwellian tactic of constant repetition.

What scares the hell out of me is that it worked.
