TMV Will Live Blog Tonight’s NBC Republican Presidential Candidate Debate »
No matter where in world one looks, incredulity and wonder seem to be the reactions people have to the political resurrection of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. In this latest critique, columnist Thomas Spang of Austria’s Nachrichten advises Mitt Romney to get off the stick or be swept away by the voter rage being so well-harnessed by Gingrich, who Spang refers to as a ‘hypocritical moralizing apostle’ and a ‘Washington insider.’
For Austria’s Nachrichten, Thomas Spang starts out this way:
For Republicans, South Carolina is sending some potentially devastating news: out of a raft of candidates, conservatives aren’t selecting a leader with the best chances of beating President Barack Obama. Rather, they are electing the incarnation of the angry American.
Newt Gingrich is carrying more heavy “baggage” than could possibly fit in his campaign bus. As Republican House speaker during the Clinton years, he is the ultimate Washington insider. He tried to relieve the president of his post because of the Lewinsky sex scandal, while he himself was having an affair. Meanwhile, this sanctimonious moralizing apostle is married to his third wife. Friends in his own party chased him out of Congress because of a long list of ethical misconduct.
Of all people, irony of ironies, this is the candidate promising to renew America. Really?

Gingrich is yet another rightwing bizarro (proudly hypocritical) who is heaping yet more embarrassment on our country. The international community is right to be incredulous. After the disaster that was Bush/Cheney I’m surprised any American sports the republican label anymore, at least in public.
Newt’s the only one I know who can create international incidents just campaigning. I’d hate to see what would happen if he got on the ballot.
What will the Republicans do if Newt wins the nomination? What a supreme embarassment it would be for them!
Its incredible the way this guy lies with a straight face during these debates– hope the Florida voters are paying attention and using fact check, since people in South Carolina voted for him because he had a strong debate performance.
What we should all fear is that he wins the Republican Nomination and the global economy craters due to the Euro crisis in the summer.
If those two events occur say hello to the NOOT Presidency, it’ll make the Shrub Presidency look good.
Since the Poltifact group (add .com to go to the site) comes originally from a Florida news paper, I am hopeful that Floridians will at least have the possibility of learning some of the truth. Whether or not they care about truth is sort of up to them.
