Excuse Me – Jerusalem IS the Capital of Israel

Any lack of recognition thereof, even by the US government, is caused by either cowardice or bigotry.

BBC sorry for calling Jerusalem capital of Israel

Promises not to repeat “the mistake,” following a complaint by four British organizations.

Instead of rediculious outrage posts maybe a discussion about this article http://www.amconmag.com/2007/2007_06_04/feature.html would be a better use of the electricity used to froth over nonsensical slop.

The BBC is reprehensible and has succumbed to dhimmitude.

  3. Ashen Shard says:

Or maybe it is because Jerusalem is not recognized as the capital by most countries. And the logical reason for it not to be the capital is because so many groups hold it as important, not to mention the fact they only have a legal right to half of the city. By continuing to assert Jerusalem as the capital only rubs salt an already dire situation. So not recognizing it is not cowardice or bigotry, its quite logical and reasonable. There was never a need to make Jerusalem the capital, they would have done just as well keeping with Tel Aviv as the official capital.

In fact Jerusalem should be independent from Israel and any other nation since it is so important to three major religions. Make it a religious city state, like the Vatican, except ruled equally by all three religions.

  4. Sorry, Holly but so long as both sides insist that Jerusalem must be their capital there won’t be any peace in the region. Of course there are factions on both sides that really don’t care because they can’t see past their respective fanaticism.

  5. Dustin says:

One problem: Israel has recognized Jerusalem as it’s capital since 1950 and it controls the surrounding territory. It doesn’t matter if the BBC (a NEWS organization, not a government) thinks it should or shouldn’t be the capital. Tel Aviv is the location of most foreign embassies and government functions because of it’s stability and importance to the nation.

The ‘most important’ city in the US in terms of size and finances is New York, not DC. Should we start calling it the US capital now?

“In fact Jerusalem should be independent from Israel and any other nation since it is so important to three major religions. Make it a religious city state, like the Vatican, except ruled equally by all three religions.”

BTW, if both sides could agree to this it’s an excellent idea.

  7. Rudi says:

Pyst – Interesting article, have you switched to the “dark side”? I doubt if many will read it. Just another liberal conservative(?) self hating Jew.

  8. Chris says:

    Holly,
Jerusalem is the home of Palestinian culture, and was home to a great deal more Palestinians than Israelis. Until it was taken illegally of course.

And as Ashen Shard said, Jerusalem is not recognized as the capital of Israel by most all countries and the United Nations.

    As you would say:
    Holly, go educate yourself.

  9. Ashen Shard says:

    Dustin,
Only problem with that idea, which for years I’ve been arguing for every time I get into a discussion like this, is that no one of importance (that I know of) has even suggested the idea. You know, I bet if someone suggested this to all sides and they thought about it, they might be willing to go along with it. And I always find it unfortunate how the Christians seem left to the sidelines in the debate over who controls the city. Their right to the city is equal to that of Muslims and Jews.

Of course you get into the problem of how exactly the governance will be shared. So many different sects in all three religions, do all branches have a voice, or only the two largest/oldest groups in each religion?

  10. Idiosyncrat says:

Chris, care to back up your ‘taken illegally’ comment? With facts, not your usual rhetoric, please.

    I won’t be waiting up…

  11. Chris says:

    Idiosyncrat,
I think you can read the various UN resolutions yourself.

Oh wait, I forgot, the entire UN, except for the U.S. is anti-Semitic! Can’t trust those guys.

  12. Dustin says:

“And as Ashen Shard said, Jerusalem is not recognized as the capital of Israel by most all countries and the United Nations.

As you would say: Holly, go educate yourself.”

Quite frankly it doesn’t matter what the international community ‘recognizes’. Which city a nation chooses inside of it’s borders as it’s capital is completely an internal matter, no matter how contentious that decision may be. Israel says Jerusalem is it’s capital; no number of UN resolutions or international complaints can change that internal sovereign decision.

You want to say otherwise? Simple, go take it from them.

  13. jdledell says:

Dustin – Israel’s legal standing resets on UN resolution 181 adopted November 29,1947. The Israeli territory(fair or not) did not include any part of Jerusalem. These territorial boundries have not been changed by any formal UN resolution. Nonetheless, Israel captured half of Jerusalem in the 1948 war of Independence. The rest of the city was captured in 1967.

Therefore, there is no recognized International authorization for Jerusalem to be the “undivided capital of Israel”.

Dustin you state:”You want to say otherwise? Simple, go take it from them.” Since you seem to be a believer in might makes right, I assume you would have no objections if someday the arabs followed through with your suggestion retook Jerusalem? Remember, Jerusalem has changed hands many, many times in it’s history. Usually because one party or the other refused to share the city. Power waxes and wanes, as it has throughout history. Someday, Israel with it’s limited population will find itself on the “short end of the stick” and will have to live with the results. It may happen in 10 years, or 100 years or a 1000 years but if history is any guide – IT WILL HAPPEN.

  14. DLS says:

Chris, don’t make a complete ass of yourself and tell people who know better they need “education” when you are ignorant or dishonest.

As to the BBC and its kin (like the “al-Guardian”), it is disgusting that they appease the terrorists. Why not show more “progress” and appease Ahmedinejad and others in the region and apologize as well for referring to Israel, period?

    Recommended substitutions, approved by Chris:

    “the Zionist entity”

    “the cancer”

    “the occupational regime”

    “the Western crusader colony”

Study your history sometime. At one point Jerusalem was going to be a corpus separatum, under control of neither side.

I’ve also remarked in the past that if the UN were ever relocated, that’s one place to consider for its new home.

It won’t hurt to read it Rudi LOL. I happen to like alot of the articles of ACM website, it reminds me when the right wasn’t insane/full of themselves so much, and could actually think without a group telling them how to.
