Ron Paul Tries To Defuse Accusations That He’s a 9/11 Truther

Rep. Ron Paul continues to zoom in the polls in Iowa, although the latest news is that as he undergoes more scrutiny former Sen. Rick Santorum is picking up steam and he is stalling. But the bottom line is this: Paul has a solid organization in Iowa so the polls could be misleading.

On the other hand, an allegation that continues to dog him are accusations that in the newsletters under his name that he claims to not have written or even approved, he suggested 9/11 was an inside job. Today he tried to beat back the allegations, using passion. Which may not be enough. To some, the written words may be fact. Here was the exchange on ABC News earlier today:

    Ron Paul is too damned old, too damned angry, too damned weird, and too damned incompetent to be POTUS.

    Lately, many non-libertarians seem to be flocking (or thinking of flocking) to Ron Paul based on the hype that he is a man of great integrity. I think most of these people are in love with IDEA of a politician with integrity, and less with Ron Paul per se. And of course there is Paul’s kook factor. If he hadn’t done so much to contribute to it then maybe it would go away.

  3. zephyr says:

    It won’t.

  4. Chilidog99 says:

    Ron Paul’s last bill in COngress:

    The Supreme Court of the United States and each Federal court–

    (1) shall not adjudicate–

    (A) any claim involving the laws, regulations, or policies of any State or unit of local government relating to the free exercise or establishment of religion;

    (B) any claim based upon the right of privacy, including any such claim related to any issue of sexual practices, orientation, or reproduction; or

    (C) any claim based upon equal protection of the laws to the extent such claim is based upon the right to marry without regard to sex or sexual orientation; and

    (2) shall not rely on any judicial decision involving any issue referred to in paragraph (1).

    Dangerous is an understatement. The man is nutz.

    As long as Ron Paul doesn’t identify the person who wrote these things he will be dogged by the issue. He didn’t have a huge staff. He should be able to get in touch with these people, especially given that he is still close to Lew Rockwell and persuade the writer(s) to step forward. Until then there’s no way this issue will go away.

  6. bluebelle says:

    I agree, Jim. This has the feel of a classic sweep it under the rug operation to me. Instead of giving the public everything they need to know about his role in those newsletters the campaign is stonewalling.

    Its just not believable that they were published under his name for 10 years to various right wing hate groups yet he has no idea who wrote them (assuming it was not Dr. Paul himself) Just the fact that he was a close associate of Lew Rockwell’s is unsettling enough for me.
