Wisconsin’s Scott Walker Shuts Down Free Cancer Screenings Through Planned Parenthood

One of the things that is utterly stunning to those of us who were once Republicans is the nearly complete death of the concept that “compassionate conservativism” was a lofty ideal. Now you have public officials such as Wisconsin’s Gov. Scott Walker who seem to have no problem tossing the word compassionate out the window. One example here.

I suspect this won’t help him win over voters in what is shaping as a near certainty that he will have to battle a recall effort.

Ideological sociopaths, IMO. Nothing matters but their pandering to people whose thought processes are dumbed down enough to believe that everything is good/evil and in their world Planned Parenthood is evil. It must be destroyed if at all possible. A long time ago I worked as the sole IT person for a PP affiliate. There were 8 clinics. Only one of them performed abortions for part of the day two days a week out of the six days they were open. Two high school kids decided after taking the pro-life position in their debate society that the position was right firebombed a clinic one night. It did nothing but birth control and health screenings. We had windows shot out in the offices. Bomb threats. Doors broken. Air conditioning units sabotaged. Patients yelled at through bullhorns from a foot away. Attempts to follow employees home. I only worked there two years and those were the things I saw. Gee, why don’t I appreciate the moral certitude of the Religious Right? Guesses, anyone?

Its absolutely masterful the way the religious right is able to paint any organization that they disagree with with an evil dayglo and then proceed to destroy it. How do they sleep at night??

And explain to me why there is so much concern for the unborn fetus but none once it starts breathing oxygen.????

  3. Zee doctor has diagnozed your severe jerking knee and haz conclooded it is the result of unwise indulgence of the uber-liberal ‘crooks and liars’, which is a subset of zee malignant, neo-bolshevik ‘Mutter Jones’.

    To wit:
“The Wisconsin Well Woman Program is an 17-year-old state service created to ensure that women ages 45 to 64 who lack health insurance can access preventive health screenings. It is administered by the Department of Health Services and provides referrals and screenings for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and multiple sclerosis at no cost.

The state currently uses a number of contractors to coordinate and provide those services, including Planned Parenthood.

Zo you see, other contractors are perfectly capable of providing these necessary reproductive services, sans the mega-abortuary, PP.

And of the four out of Wisconsin’s 72 counties that are exclusively served by PP, well, Lord knows that it is simply inconceivable that any other provider would ever take over those services.
    (that was sarcasm)

Plus, thee azzumption that women are simply dumb sheeple who couldn’t possibly find away to the next county for this most important health issue, well, that speaks volumes about thee oppression of ‘condescending liberalism.’
    (that was a reality check)

    Merry Christmas!

Locomotivebreath, like most of the Religious right, has some bad problems with the facts. “Mega-abortuary”? The simple truth is that abortion isn’t nearly as much of what Planned Parenthood does as the RR claims it is. And since they know what God wants they feel perfectly comfortable doing Anyang to damage the organization. Oppression in this arena is from the right. I have to laugh at eider of a reality check from an ideologue.

  5. Rcoutme says:

Disclaimer: I am against the right to choose abortion (and am a Catholic apologist). Gov. Walker’s decision was idiotic, unpatriotic, financially self-destructive, cold-hearted, anti-Christian and wrong. To wit:

    1) Idiotic: he is facing a recall possibility and continues to antagonize people

    2) Unpatriotic: He is playing favorites based on his belief that PP is evil. Jesus did not suggest that the Romans were nice guys, he simply said, “Pay your taxes!”

    3) Financially self-destructive: If the women do not get the screenings, the costs for treating them will outweigh the cost savings of not providing the tests. In addition, the four counties not served by any other provider may, indeed, get other clinics to offer the treatment, but the cost to Wisconsin to set up the system will have been for no other purpose than to appease Scott Walker.

    4) Cold-hearted: denying medical screening to poor people is setting them up for painful death, period.

    5) Anti-Christian: see Sermon on the Mount; alternately, what part of, “Love thy neighbor” did you not understand?

    6) Wrong: There are myriad other things that could be added, including constitutional requirements, fulfilling his oath of office as governor to the State of Wisconsin, and simple common decency. Otherwise, reread 1-5.

  6. Mr. Satterfield,

Prejudice much, or is today special?

I am Wiccan and that makes me part of the religious right? Who knew?

As Wiccan, I respect all life, including that of Mother Earth and all her creatures. This includes the life created through sexual union with one’s partner.

PP is a multi-billion dollar industry that helps to destroy the most helpless on this planet: a human in the womb.

And as my post stated, PP is one of many organizations which the state of Wisconsin contracts with to provide reproductive health care. The destitute are not without viable options paid for by the state. Any argument to the contrary is specious and knee jerk.

    Happy Hannakuh.

Rcoutme: your post is such blithering sophistry of Christian theological ignorance is does not merit any more of my time.

  7. StockBoyLA says:

“Gov. Scott Walker is a ruthless extremist, and more women in Wisconsin will die of cancer, thanks to his right-wing vendetta against Planned Parenthood.”

    Talk about death panels!

OK, I agree with you in theory. However I’m not sure these counties have other organizations that can provide these services. It’s not like the government pays organizations enough money to have offices in every community.

Since you seem to know that other organizations can provide these services in these counties, what are they?

  9. EEllis says:

So if they find someone to take PP place everyone will be fine with the change right?

Because it’s just about making sure people get the health care not politics right?

Truth is whatever side you might be on PP has from it’s start been a political group. Not the clinics necessarily but they are just so intertwined with Dems it’s inevitable. Heck they may even want to be apolitical but I don’t see how it would be possible. This is what happens. And the outcry is mostly political also. With less effort than will be spent complaining about the issue people could easily insure that there will be locations that are available in the 4 counties, if indeed there are not already established locations, like maybe the county hospitals or other health care clinics, that would be happy to receive the guarantied sate money for contracting these services and are not nearly as involved in politics as PP.
