Protecting Iraqis

Take a look at these photos: “An Iraqi boy hides behind a U.S. soldier on Monday amid gunfire after a car bomb in Central Baghdad killed 24 people.”

Makes one remember why US forces are still in Iraq, and why they cannot all be withdrawn any time soon, doesn’t it?

That’s not anywhere near the first thing that comes to my mind when I see those photos. Considering the car bombs, etc., are a product of our military being there.

However, I do feel very sad for the people who live there and for the servicemen and women who are there putting their lives on the line.

Well, yesterday I commented on the story about the right wing blogs that rushed to judgment about a memo that they thought was faked (I thought they were silly to do so) and now I see that the same mentality occurs on both ‘sides’ of our political spectrum- the very first comment on that site is from someone questioning whether or not that was a REAL US soldier (the other commenters quickly set him straight). It’s just sad that it’s come to this; the suspicions of forgery have really gotten out of hand as various people try to manipulate public opinion.

  3. Agreed Christine. There is zero trust, there only seems to be manipulation.
