The Gun Toting Liberal: “Bush Amnesty For Illegal Aliens Bill Passes Senate As President Lures Border Agents To Iraq With Six-Figure Salary Offers”

Andrew Sullivan quotes a reader who describes todays republican right-wing as being fascist. Libby Spencer responds (and agrees with Andrew).

Ali Eteraz on Islamic Existentialism: “A lot of Westerners do not understand Muslim poets like Ghalib (and even guys like Khayyam) because we do not understand the deeper existentialism that motivated them. There has been a longstanding literary and spiritual movement in the East which argues that Existence i.e. being born, is a sort of oppression, because we — our individual souls — were not first consulted as to whether we wished to be given life and consigned to the world. These poets — guys like Ghalib — then argue, that despite this initial act of oppression by God upon us, we will affirm the beauty of the world, affirm the existence of God, and affirm the ability to love.”

Fascinating read.

Sean Aqui at Midtopia: Wolfowitz agrees to leave.

“Big surprise.”

Trent Telenko at Winds of Change: “The Immigration Amnesty for Terrorists Act.” Trent writes: ‘The title of this post is intentionally provocative for a reason. It is a “Cultural Cruise Missile” intended to fly below the radar screens of the media and political elite at the speed of the blogosphere to frame the debate on this bill.’

  1. Actually that would be my co-blogger Jim Martin who posted that one but I do agree with both of them. Thanks for the link.

Wall Street Journal reporter Alan Cullison said he and at least one other Western journalist had missed the flight because their passports and tickets were being withheld. He said police told them there was a potential problem with the tickets.

The Dissenters’ March set to take place in Samara was sanctioned by the local authorities, but police detained many of its organizers in the run-up to the event.

Sergei Kurt-Adzhiyev, the editor of the local edition of liberal newspaper Novaya Gazeta, said he was summoned by prosecutors for questioning Friday in connection with the preparations for the Dissenters’ March. Earlier, investigators seized computer hard drives from the newspaper’s editorial office, he said.

After their morning flight departed, Mr. Kasparov, opposition leader Eduard Limonov and others were being kept in a waiting room, and their passports had not been returned, Mr. Kasparov’s aide Marina Litvinovich said from an airport waiting area.

DLS -You been reading the WSJ again? There coverage of Wolfowitz was the same as their coverage for Libby- “he wuz framed”. They have really become the neocon mouthpiece haven’t they? Neither Libby or Wolfowitz was set up- both went through a fair process with the kind of legal representation normal people never get. The WSJ probably thinks Alberto is getting a raw deal from those on a partisan witchhunt. Their editorial page has lost my respect- along with the Washington Post’s- which used to be even-handed.
