Associated Press: Poll Indicates Most Want Wisconsin Gov. Walker Recalled

Is there another successful recall in Wisconsin’s future? If this AP story is any indication, it sounds that way. And — surprisingly — the shift seems to be coming from Republicans who want to see him get the boot:

As jubilant opponents of Republican Gov. Scott Walker launched their effort to try to recall him from office, a new poll showed he has lost support among his Republican base and a majority of respondents favor recall.

The Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert College Survey was released the same day that Democrats, labor unions and others, angry over his moves to curb union rights, began circulating petitions to get the 540,000 signatures needed to force a recall election next year.

The poll showed that 58 percent of respondents believe Walker should be recalled from office. That compares with 47 percent who said in April that he should be recalled.

The growth in support for a recall came, surprisingly, from Republicans. In the spring, only 7 percent of Republicans supported recalling Walker but that grew to 24 percent in the fall. Support among Democrats held mainly steady at 88 percent in the spring and 92 percent in the fall.

It sounds like Walker is on his way to becoming someone who unites residents of Wisconsin.

Walker will always have a job at Kochs Industry beating up working people.

heard from friend in Madison yesterday… the recall is dead serious and middle class with means are enraged, not just working classes. Many in the middle class in the upper midwest are not that far away from having been working class in their/my lifetime. Many many worked their way ‘up’ and know it is one of the main trajectories to do better for your family and children and grands. I wonder what money and from whom and where, will try to protect Walker. Let us see. I think all will be revealed.

Perhaps the poll doesn’t mean what you suggest? Perhaps the republicans support a recall because they believe that Walker would win again and that it would further strengthen their position. It would also have the effect of furthur draining the coffers of the unions who support the recall; especially if it turns out that the effort at a recall only produces the recall election and not the demise of Mr. Walker.

In the end, it depends on who his challenger winds up being. Walker has his record to run on and can demonstrat how his policies have save money for the school districts, tough to run against actual results with a platform of wishing to return to the old days when the teachers’ unions bilked the taxpayers for their insurance.

Lol, yea, he trimmed the budget. That alone will be the issue. You ever see the SNL skit where Jesse the Body tells Minnesota he has good news, they balanced the budget. Bad news, they sold the state’s water supply to do it. Sometimes you gotta look at the results in terms of effect, not just the bottom line.

  5. DaGoat says:

24% of GOP supporting the recall means 76% do not. Still heavily polarized and it will probably come down to turnout.

  6. ShannonLeee says:

    Walker is toast.

Someone should have told him that the pendulum is really just an axe.
